hello everyone. my name is Joseph, and I'm an MR2 owner. I'm a new member, and I wasn't so sure where to put this thread, so I figured it fit here. if it doesn't, can a mod move it to the correct place please? anyway, as the title says, I'm thinking (in the future) about swapping the S2k F20 (is this right? I'm not a Honda person) into my '91 N/A MR2. I've posted on the MR2 boards about this, and many of them say just what I was thinking. there would be problems mounting a longitudinally mounted engine horizontally to make it fit behind me. I'm not so much a "toyota" person as I am a MR drivetrain person. I run the MR2 in autoX in the stock class, and after next year, I am going to want a bit more power, and I was talking to a friend, and he recommended that I swap an S2k engine into it. do you guys know any answers to the problem of mounting an S2k engine in a FWD manner?

Devon's AW11 MR2 V6 SWAP!! (UPDATED 10/17/06) MR2only Feature Car! Toyota has a lot of interchangeable parts. It would probably be the easiest to make your mr2 front engine rear wheel for s2k, but that mid- engine configuration is best for auto x. If you swap with a Toyota engine, research selected engine for piston slap and oil starvation. Also, FWD transmission's shift linkage will be in the rear for mid engine car. Longer shifter cables would have to go around exhaust and be 8 or 10 feet long so you need an mr2 transmission or modify Toyota transmission as shown in the above link. You'll need to figure speedometer too.
I cut up Devon's instrument panel to make 98 Camry speedo fit, used original circuits on panel and added a harness to Camry engine harness for remaining circuits. Devon's car is fully integrated 98 obd2. He later changed it to a stand alone for his supercharger.

I'm not sure if you understand me. I want to replace my 5S-FE with the 2L engine out of the S2000, and keep it in the same place. also, the thought of an NSX V6 has crossed my mind since I see how well the Camry V6 sits in the 2, although, I'm not sure how much a V6 out of an NSX would run me. and my MR2 is the 2nd gen MR2 (SW21 chassis). like I said, this is in the future, I'm just getting info at the moment.

Why do you want Honda? Not to criticize, just wondering. Mr2's are great cars, they should have made them faster in the first place.

regardless of whether or not i am a toyota and/or honda fan, it seems like a waist of 'energy' to put a perfectly good k20 into a perfectly good toyota. there has to be a toyota conversion that will give you all of your desires. not to mention the fact that the engine in it is great... from what i understand.

on a less related topic... i do believe that an nsx motor is merely a stroked and tuned version of that generation's v6... therefore you are not only limited to the nsx.

well, about "picking" Honda, I never really picked it. I just know Honda engines are MEGA reliable, and they have variable valve timing systems, and 9k rpm's behind me would sound really good. it's not so much that I "picked" Honda, as I did the engine. it's kinda like my relationship with Toyota and the MR2. I like the MR2 VERY much, I'm just not too fond of the rest of Toyota stuff (too boring). it's like Honda, I love the NSX and I've always thought the engine in the S2k was a neat engine, as well, but the rest of Honda, I don't really care about (don't like FF/AWD). I just want a reliable engine, I want 240-280hp, and I want it to be N/A. I've seen a bunch of Camry V6 swaps and BEAMS swaps into my style MR2, but I suppose I just want something a bit different. that and 200hp N/A at the crank wouldn't be enough for me.

as for Toyota not making the MR2 faster, it was really just a parts bin car that turned out to be fantastic! it's got an engine from a camry, and shares a lot more parts with the camry all around, just the engine is in the right place :D. and they couldn't really make the MR2 faster than their flagship car (Toyota Supra).

You just need to figure out how you will get the engine connected to wheels. Without it becoming a sloppy piece of crap. You have several options.

If you could build the custom engine mounts to make the engine fit in the MR2, and figure out a way to mate the Honda engine to a Toyota transmission you might have something. Other than that I really don't see any way to make it work. You can't use the S2000 transmission since it's designed to be used in a front engine rear drive car. In addition to that, you will not be able to compete in the stock class of SCCA after you swap the engine to a Honda powerplant anyway.

I think your best option would be to swap in the supercharged or turbo engine and then modify that to get the power you're looking for.
