Type R cams in a GSR

I want to put some Integra Type R cams in my GSR motor and was wondering if i had to change the springs and retainers aswell or would my old ones handle it?

I would recommend changing the springs. Some people will tell you that it will be ok on the stock springs, but I don't personally feel it's worth the risk considering what kind of damage you can do if you float a valve or bind one of the valve springs. The GSR valve train was not designed to run that kind of lift cam or the higher RPM you'll need to run to take full advantage of those cams.

GSR valve train only has single springs on the exhaust side as well which isn't a very good idea to be running the R cams with. As an alternative to buying a whole set of springs you can take the intake dual springs and move them to the exhaust side (they are the same as the ITR). Then all you will need to buy is a set of ITR intake dual springs.
 
In addition to the springs, you'll also want to run ITR LMA's, for the same reason as changing the springs (the GSR LMA's weren't designed for higher-lift cams).
 
I have personally ran CTR cams in my B16 with stock valve train and it ran PERFECTLY fine. The only thing you MUST do is not exceed the stock redline. The lift isn't a problem, it's the duration of the cams if you go up to 8500 rpm's that'll keep the valve open too long and smash into your piston.

But in order to take full advantage of the cams i'd suggest going with the springs and retainers as well, so you can rev the cams where they liked to be reved to.

We're speaking in a sort of 'better safe than sorry' scenario here - because the ITR cams are going to make power a bit higher than the stock redline, he's naturally going to want to spin it a little higher.
