In my own little world!
Hey peps... Need advice links ect!

So A friend and I want to build a Motor from scratch...and I mean scratch.

We are thinking about buying a stock B18 block, and buying all of the internals ect.
So far we Have looked at skunk 2 and AEM for some parts... but we want other ideas from all of u!

We have about $20k to spend, but idealy would like to only spend $15,000 on the motor and turbo set up. So if anyone is bored and feels like helping us build a motor from hell, that be cool..

Thanks for your opions! :):D:D:D

Thats like buying a whole motor m8... I was looking for something like a B18 and recommendations on a head, Trany, internals ect! After all it is project time in Vermont when its cold out!

I say a K-series frank motor. Saw a boosted one in a eg and had to change my pants.

Boosted K or PayPal me $100 and I'll do the research for you. :)

Sigh* Blanco... Blanco... Trying to make easy money? well I mite have to take u up on that.. and I don't want a boosted K because 1, I get in way way to much trouble, This EG still needs to beable to turn like it does right now and I frankly feel a K is 2 heavy inless someone knows more then me which is Highly Probable... lol

just replace like everything, if you are gonna go with the b18b block, which is a very good block, i would go the vtec route also. Get a b16 head and put in like all new skunk2 valves, valve springs, retainers etc. Then like some skunk2 cams and perhaps an aem cam gear. Go with a thick gasket for turbo reasons and get some nice low comp forged pistons and some eagle rods. Have that block sleaved as well. Also like a knife edged crank. As far as the block goes remember to spend alot of money on tuning not just the block itself. Get some other things like fuel and spark accesories and what not. A engine that has alot of money dumped in it can make as much power as a cheaply built one if the tuning isnt done right, so good luck and keep us posted with what you do.

How is that like buying a whole motor? A "CRVTEC" is when you combine a B20 block and a VTEC head, sounds like a good engine build suggestion to me...

So you don't want a boosted K because it will get you in trouble, but you want to spend $15,000 on an engine build? What are you planning on doing with the 15 grand, gold-plating a stock LS motor? If you're gonna dump that much money into a B18B then it's probably gonna haul ass, so I don't really understand what your hangup on the K being too powerful is...

And why would the K be too heavy? It's a 2 liter four cylinder motor, it's gonna weigh around the same as a B18. People swap H22s into their Civics with minimal effects on handling and drive-ability, so why would a smaller motor be a problem?

You definitely need to do a lot of research before you buy a motor or any parts...

Thus im hear to find all this out!

ok So the k20.... Will it fit in an 95 Coupe? just wondering? Also if that were the route to go, what elts is required, Head, ECU, and all the eingine internals ?

And when I said I didn't want to get in trouble I was only kidding!

Yeah the K20 will fit in your car with the obvious mounts and other things. try going to hybrid-racing.com they have all that is needed for the swap like mounts, shifter box, all the cables and wiring harnesses, and also the swap headers. as to what else is required you probably arent going to be able to find just a bare K20 block seeing as they are fairly new so you will be buying the whole engine package with trans and ecu. if you look on motor sales sites like hmotorsonline.com you will see 2 kinds of K20 engines, the K20A2 and the K20 JDM Type-R, in my opinion the type-r is worth the extra 1200 bucks because it somes with a stock LSD trans and we all know honda makes their stock parts tough. so if you just check out those sites you should be all set up besides your turbo system and for that i like full-race.com because their manifolds are just the sickest looking manifolds around in my opinion. hope what i have said was helpful man good luck with all of this. and keep us posted on the project.

Thanks alot. We will look into it, and ya I will be making a tred after I decied on what parts to get to start building :)

What kind of car is this engine going into? I see nobody bothered to ask that question so far...

In that case I would vote for a K series as well. If you have some objection to that engine then go with an H22a.

There is a big difference in cost between the K series and an H22a as well.. so it's not really a simple decision. I would do some research between your available options and see what fits your plans the best. You can swap a B, H, or K series into that car and the cost basically increases respectively. With the kind of money you are planning on spending it's not quite a simple decision as you have many options to make a lot of power.

Humm.. point taken, But I want to keep the handling of the car practically the same... So what motor best suits that? everyone has said the K? is the H really any different?

The weight difference isn't more than a couple hundred pounds between any of those engines. Personally I think everyone blows it way out of proportion. Everyone always seems to think you have to upgrade the suspension when you upgrade to an H22, however the difference is under 200lbs which an easily be overcome by an upgraded suspension if it even makes a difference in the first place.

What are you planning to do with the car? Drag racing, track racing, or just a play toy for the street?

Show Car, Play Toy, and Auto X ... and Now and then Drag Racing... But ya thats what were planing on!

I would probably be leaning towards a K series in your case since the price basically isn't a factor. 15k should be enough to do everything you want engine wise, and also score good points as a show car. But I would definitely do some research into your available options and base your decision on that. With the kind of money you are planning to spend there really isn't one right answer to your question.
