If i have a Japaneses spec motor can i still find a way to pass a smog test??? i heard there are things u can do to pass the smog test even with a Japaneses spec motor?

Yea. If you get a JDM motor, just run the ecu for the USDM equivalent. I know this works for the JDM d15b vtec motor if you run a USDM ecu for the z6 or chip your ecu so you can change maps.

Yes you can make a JDM engine pass, but what's required to do so depends on what state you live in. Some states you don't need to do anything at all.

if you live in CA you'll need to get it BAR'd..

i know here i was able to smog my hatch with a b16 swap with out a BAR sticker. I guess it depends on who smogs it.

Yeah.. technically they aren't supposed to do that, but I also know a guy up here that will smog something for me as long as the engine size matches something that was in the car stock regardless of what engine it actually is. Since the civic had a 1.6 liter, even though it was a D series, that's probably what they did too.

even though it gets smogged... if you get pulled over, you'll get sent to the ref without that sticker

It doesn't even matter if you know the right places to get inspected. I took mine to this cheap ass place (i live in a small town) where this old ass guy inspects the car and all he does is check all the lights, turn signals, brakes, idle, and test drive. Gotta get it done again soon after my swap I'll see what happens :D.

Well you only get sent to the ref if they pop your hood. Ive been pretty lucky and havent had to pop it yet. Yea my smog guy doesnt care what you have in there as long as it pass the emission part of the test. He doesnt care about the visual.

for me it was a pain in the ass. i have a 93 cx with a JDM b16a1 and it took a P28 USDM ecu with Hondata so the air/fuel could be leaned out to 16 to 1 for the test. no BAR cert needed in WA st.
