I have a 97 Del Sol with a GSR swap. Im currently running a OBD1 ECU with the jumper harness. I have a skunk 2 Intake manifold with a short ram connected to it. My car runs pretty good but I have a couple minor things that bother me. And I'm not all to familiar with Honda's so I don't know what is normal and what is not. First off. If I ream on my car and go through a couple gears shifting at redline (8k) my Check engine light will come on. I pulled the code and it's a 3 meaning Map Sensor. Also after you ream on it, it will have a slight idle surge for like 15-30 seconds then will idle fine. I know the check engine light is not normal but is the slight idle surge after hard acceleration?. Also I think I have a minor Throttle positioning sensor problem. When I am just barely putting around. Like in a neighorhood or something, If I just barely push the petal sometimes it will give it no gas, and then sometimes it will go. If I press harder it will go but there is no in between. It's like it has trouble reading when your just barely pressing. Let's see what else. Oh yeah, and when is Vtec supposed to kick in on a stock GSR? Mine kicks in at 4500. It doesn't do much at that rpm but you can hear it cross over and starts getting more power around 5. Every other honda Ive been in it was around 5600. S200, Civic Si, CTR. If you guys could anwer my questions I would be grateful. Thanks

im pretty new to hondas, but i do know that the stock vtec switchover on a stock B18c1(gsr motor) is 6000 rpm. i have heard of people switching the vtec to 5000-5200 but 4500 almost seems stupid. could be an ecu prob. whats the #'s on the ecu??

Wrong.. VTEC engages at 4400 RPM on a stock GSR ECU.

I'm not sure really, ive never looked at it. Autolab put it in for me when they fixed my car. Ive had it worked on by them since to fix other things so pretty much everything is good to go now. Vtec still kicks in around 4500 and I can feel a slight power gain when it does so I know the cam is effective at that RPM.

i woulda reposted last night but i figured id wait until u got back to me with numbers. but i would recommend find the ecu number. the p28 which is what i run on a stock d16z6 is the only ecu i can find on hondaswap.com, that has a 4500 rpm vtec kick-in out of the factory, idk if the p28 can run the b18c because it comes out of the factory with a p72, but my guess right now is ur running the wrong ecu, and im sure that would mess up the map sensor and everything. just lemme no when u figure it out.

I really doubt it's the wrong ECU since everything else is working properly. I would either test or replace your MAP sensor and see if that solves your problem.

As I said before.. the P72 VTEC engagement is at 4400 RPM.

Yep i'm running a p72. I think norcalgsr is right.
