Watanabe Whore!!!
Rest In Peace
The subby is still running, still trudging along....but now is over 205,000 miles...and I have no idea on how much longer it will last. The wife is still piddling around trying to find her Jeep that she wants to buy, the CRX is de-registered and I pulled the insurance off it, so I can sell it. The red Z is in hibernation mode, while the yellow Z is still chilling on the trailer I bought that is parked at a buddies house.... So for right now I only have one running car. I was thinking about picking up a truck, so I can commute and tow the Z's to events, but the wife's new Jeep should handle that chore with no problem....unless she buys a 4 cylinder...:(

Anyways...I got about $5000 to pick up a new daily driver, and the market is just full of damn cars that I want...and I can't decide. First I thought I might just pick an 85-87 CRX HF that has no rust, and still runs like they did back in the 80's...as in 54 mpg stock. I got a ton of parts I can swap onto it to JDM bling it out. BUT I CAN'T FIND ONE!!!!! Oh well.:( Then I'm thinking of maybe a new civic hatchback that has low miles or a decent running swap thats still is a little peppy but also still gets about 28-32 mpg. I wouldn't mind another Leggy, but the next one will have to be AWD, and in decent enough shape to to a BG5 EJ20 into when the motor goes a few years down the road. I'm also looking for a datsun roadster 1600...but can't find any in my area worth the money. Then I thought about actually snagging a 240sx....stock or swapped....as long as it runs, since I have plenty of friends that have a ton of extra parts for them. Then Miata's and RX-7's start popping up and I'm starting consider those as well.

I found this little jewel, 240sxONE.com • Login , and I'm trying to set up a time to go look at it, hell, I even pulled out a little cash today, and will pull out a little cash tomorrow to have the cash in hand if I like.....and with the price for $1800 OBO, by the time it's registered and insured, then I'll still have about $3000 to dump into the red Z for some major bodywork and parts. I will probably just sell the yellow Z and the CRX, and use that money to pick up more shit.

Where's Hosmer to hook me up with something cool.....

I just don't get it.

Legacy is starting to show it's miles.
CRX that I have is not prepped for DD.
Z's won't see DD.
Wife still hasn't bought a Jeep.
I have $5000 to toss at something fun and for DD.
what I don't use to get with the $5000 will go towards more parts for the Z's.
Looking for something 4 cyl, old, reliable, fun, in good condition, and will have lug patterns for the hundreds of wheels and tires I have.

I've even had thoughts about buying back the AE86 that I built from the kid I sold it to, he took it home...and it still sits as the same as when he took it.

what was wrong with the ae86???go on craigslist.com..they have tons of shit online for less that 5gs

I don't know man. Sounds like you're ready to do this every couple years. Personally, I'd look at my long term goals outside of my short term goals, even including my hobbies, and think what would benefit those goals the most with the money.

for the last 2.5 years, the leggy has lasted perfectly. And I only got it for $1200.

Why don't you just use the Leggy when K gets a car/truck/SUV? It will still probably last a while longer, and she gets what she wants. Then you have a DD and she has her vehicle and you can invest the 5k into something else...

My $.02

I'm using it everyday right now as a dd....for the last 2.5 yrs. And I'll use her new jeep as a standby dd and tow bitch. But its gettin old and not fun anymore.

you're looking at project cars instead of what you need.

you have 3 project cars and a dying DD, yet you're looking for another project.

priorites dude.

buy something stock, cheap, and that will get you to work and back as its sole purpose in life.

I'm looking for a car that runs, low miles, gets decent mpg's, and no rust.

and I went and looked at the S12...and it fits the bill. Sportmax's are not included, but it runs, has heat and A/C, gets 25mpg, passed emissions, and only one spot of rust. 110,000 miles...I can probably push that car for another two-three years for DD.

It will end up in the driveway maybe thursday.
$1800, 200 to reg and tag it, and put some gas in it.....$3Ks towards the Z....hrmmmmm...

I think a buddy has a 96ish Leggy he wants to get rid of...

too late...for the subby...ohh well.

after spending all day thinking about this car I've came to this conclusion.

I'm getting it today. :)

blown shocks, but the kid is throwing in some s-13 spindles and other s-13 parts, and they pretty much bolt on and then I can add any S-13 front coilovers that I can find. right now I have a wtb post on Ziptied.com...and watching shit on Egay. the 140hp KA24e felt good when I drove it,and it had some balls.

And after researching it some more yesterday...literally everything in my garage can directly bolt up, or slight fabbing and bolt up. Basically the suspension was stolen from the 280zx and some of the 280Z's...diff and engines are also robbed from other datsuns...so parts wise, and simple bolt on crap wize...I already have most of everything.

One major selling point that hit me this morning when I was looking at spec's...was the diff. they came with a 4.11 R180....and I just happen to have a 4.11 R180 in the red Z with a nismo 2 way rare as shit LSD....but it stays in the Z...because I put it there...but when I yanked out the old 3.545 open diff...I noticed the MPG dropped a lot on the Z.....and thats what I'll swap into the 200sx... a lower ratio diff than the Datsun 260Z had (3.545)....or I'll just snag an R-180 from a 240Z....weld it...and have a nice 3.36 diff that will prolly push me into the 30 MPG range....and tweek the car up a little with some lighter rims and tires...tint, stereo, alarm, remote start, a good cleaning, and maybe some fresh paint...via Tom's buddy..

in about 4 hours I'll have the bill of sale and title.... hehe

don't you ever get tired of working on this stuff? As B said, why not just buy a car to use a daily driver and not lift a finger other than to put gas in and change the oil. Modding = problems, its a given, maybe not tomorrow or next week, but in sometime, you'll be fixing it.

modding = fun = happy = pissed girlfriend = no money = broke car after a few years

I'm tired of working on them already...but buying a normal car....is just not right for any male or mechanically blessed female. Unless you have the money, or the credit to buy the real big toys...and when somebody keys it or steals it...then your out of the real pleasure of enjoying it unless you can afford the city taxes and insurance rate increases to keep it. Some people will never understand...but some do.

Just like buying a house...I dump $200K's on a house...stick with, apply a lot of "sweat" equity...and when I sell it, I can nearly double the value or get back $300K's...and move on. Now days is not the right time to sell a house, but in 3-5 years...it may become another seller's market again.

Cars are different...for projects...I have so many projects with parts and equipment...but no time for intense projects...but smaller, easier projects that can be knocked out in an hour or so...I can deal with. Resale value will never be as much as what I put into it...but eventually I will enjoy the outcomes somehow.

Sad story...the AE86 that I bought for $2000, and dumped another $5000 into...sold to a kid for $3000...is now sitting in his garage in piles...and he's already dumped another $20,000...yes $20K's into it...and it still doesn't run. So I'll never be able to buy it back if it ever gets running...but from the sounds of it....it will be hot....

and that hotness is part of the cycle...knowing what I started..will eventually work for someone else. :)

just as my job...I build $15 million dollar helicopters so some oil sheik can have a cool and safe ride...every time I see one of my helicopters flying overhead or just getting huge public reviews in the news...I squirt on the monitor.

It's a man thing... ;)
