Ok, I'm definately a noob when it comes to hondas. I have biult chevys, fords, and even VW, but this is my first honda swap. My girlfriends 94 Civic Ex, took a dump on her and I have a line on a 96 Civic with a D16Y8 in it. Is there anything I should look out for during the swap? Is this an okay swap? Should I try to find something different? I have searched and from what I found it shoud basically just bolt in, right? Please give me any help you can as I am new to this and could definetaly use it.

Thanks

Clayton

the engine will bolt right up, but the 94 engine is obd1 and the new engine is obd2. Not that big of a issue, just you will need an obd1 dizy, altinator, and fuel injectors. Might help to just swap thintake many from the old engine on to the new one, but im not sure which one flows better. The new engine will havea few sensors you wont have a spot for on your harness, but thats ok, cause the ecu wont be looking for them. Its much easier to put an obd2 in and obd1 chasie, than the other way around ;)

Another quick question. The 96 has a manual tranny and my 94 has an auto. Would it be worth it to convert to manual? I would rather have the manual.

If you are using the ecu out of th 96 it won't run the auto tranny. You'll either have to use the manual tranny and convert or get yourself an auto ecu to run the vtec.

um if you are going to convert to a many sell the car and get a manual. its a lot of work, not really hard or anything, but alot of pain in the ass for little result. Its cheaper to sell the auto and buy a manual, but if i were you id just get an auto ecu and call it good ;)

D16Y8 Intake Manifold flows MUCH MUCH better than anything else, however the automatic and manual Y8 manifolds are not interchangable.

So I can't use the 94 ecu on the 96? So the D16Z6 auto tranny won't bolt up to the D16Y8 with the manaul intake?

Why don't you just find an original motor for the car? It will probably be easier to swap, you wont have to do any re-wiring etc. Then sell that car and buy one with a manual and vtec.

you can youse the 94 ecu that is fine. and the intake many wont effect the trany bolting up. He was just saying that the intake manifold on the engine is diftent for the manual and the automatic. I didnt know that, looked like it would be fine for my bros car, which was an auto, but i never bolted it on so idk.

The 94 already has vtec.

Ok well forget the vtec part then.... wtf is the difference? You want vtec and manual whether you have a vtec engine already or not.

just swap bottom ends, keep your z6 head (if the valvetrain is not damaged), so no wiring is needed. keep it auto, converting to manual will be a pain, ive done it. a lot of time at the junkyard salvaging parts, its not fun.
