hey all, i am getting ready to turbo my jdm h22a BB2 prelude and i was looking for some simple and fairly cheap ideas to go about making this motor handle the extra power and/or make extra power too, i gotta price on a full build and right now i just cant afford it but i have my turbo kit already, LMK what some of you might think or what you would do, hope to hear from some of you soon....THANX

Yeah its going to cost quite a bit, for me it was : $1000 for sleeves and getting the block sleeved, $500 for low compression pistons $700 for race rods. And there is more to it. Ive spent about 8 grand on my motor, and shes built to take anything. One big reason most people don't do the H build is its expensive, parts are tough to find, and it can be right out a pain in the ass.

i here ya guys, but ive also been told that h-series motors wil handle up to 10psi of boost stock and have pulled 325whp with just bolt ons and the turbo kit, so thats what im going for in the mean time of my extra block being built, so far with the machine shop i was told to sleeve it and bored it and everything else would only cost me $1700, and thats a full build, so i dont know where you guys are going...plus i found sleeves for $300 and pistons, rings n rods for $450, so yea i think ill just stick to my original plan but thanks for the input....enjoy your exspensive taste all....

it is actually, the best machine shop ive gone to in PA

Got to remember, the H22 does not like boost ( for the most part ). When you are going to be pushing some power you need to get good parts. Sleeves is a huge part of it, so make sure you get real good ones. Remember. The saying " You get what you pay for" Means a lot.

thanks guys, and yes you get what you pay for, been there done that a million times already, but alot of the parts too have done phenomenal so i guess we'll just see what happens, i dont care if i blow it, i have 2 more motors just laying around, so if it blows, ill just start over....

preparing for turbo with a grand

the best advice i could give you is to get performance valves titanium retainers and some skunk2 valve springs. your valve train is one of the major weakness at mid to high power output you are more like to bend a valve than to throw a rod hopefully this helps if it does please leave me some rep

If he stays around 350 or so the titanium retainers are not needed. Just get a set of Skunk2 retainers and springs, as well as valves. Then you should be fine. The titanium are supposed to be used if your making a serious amount ( probably around 500 or more ) and need to be changed out every so often.

why dont you just sell one of the 2 motors you have sitting around to foot the bill for the complete engine build and do it right the first time. just think about the labor charges of having to do the first 1000 bucks worth of work and then when you get enough for the rest having to tear down the motor down a second time. i mean depending on what shape your spare h22 is in you could make enough for better sleeves, rods, pistons, valves, retainers, springs and all that plus a decent tuning job. but good luck with the build make sure you post some pictures when you get going on it.

enjoy your exspensive taste all....

they were actually genuinely trying to help you. is that your car in the picture? it paints a picture.

if you want to know what the ideal header is for an h22 boosted, ask that question and you might get a specific opinion. but general questions leave room for more general questions in some sort of quest for the 'teacher' to be able to help the 'student'.

:)

Thanks for the comment, and yes that is my car in the picture....

And thank you all for generally answering my question, i think i have gotten a nice lesson or idea of what i need to do. and i do agree that just asking for general ideas won't give me the info i really wana know, but i think i have got a fair idea of what to do and make sure it is right....
