91 ef/dx project
I have a 1991 honda civic dx hatchback and i am lookin to swap a b18c5 type r into it. Money is tight, but i also want to do it right! I have done quite a bit of research on it and am really convinced that it can be done. I am looking to kno what parts will be needed and about how much they will cost. If any one has done this swap or knows someone who has i would like 2 kno how it went and about how long it took!! Im new to hondas, and some people think im getting in way over my head, but i really want to go through with this swap and do my ef justice!!

ok theres 2 problems youve already stated..1.money is tight..type-r swaps are alot of money..which means youll end up rigging something if you dont have proper funding...2.you are new to hondas..if you dont know what your doing i wouldnt even attempt it..especially with such a high cost swap...
why dont you just swap an ls from an integra..then just slap on a b16head??
i dont know..but im pretty sure your not going to get much help based off of these 2 prolbem..but goodluck

I hear they are pricey, and im willing 2 take my time and spend the money 2 do it right. more money jus means more time for me, im not lookin for an overnight project. and on the knoledge half most all my friends have spent their entire lives around hondas. Im jus lookin for a good challenging project! Jus a little kno how so i dont waste my time with trial and error.

I jus need 2 kno if it can be done, and what parts are needed for the swap? I want to run obd1!!

People swap B-series motors into EF Civics all the time. It's certainly doable. Like the others mentioned, the B18C5 is an OBD2 motor, so you're going to need a conversion harness. You can get that here: Rywire - Online Store

You do have other options though. You can swap to OBD1 and use a chipped ECU to run the motor instead of going to OBD2.

Aside from the motor and ECU, you'll also need a B-series transmission, mounts, axles, and various other parts. Do a search on this, it's been covered lots of times.

Good luck!

The link to h-motors is a link for a JDM Type R B18C, I fixed the link, it had the wrong one before. This one is the complete changeover, as far as axles, mounting, shift linkage, tranny, etc. So there's a good idea of the money you'll be spending to say the least.

Im lookin 2 go obd1. the motor is practaly being given to me, so im jus lookin to kno wat it will take to make it work. so far i need and obd2-1 conversion harness, motor mounts, a tranny is coming with the motor so im covered in that department, and the wires were jus cut, so i figure ima need a sub wiring harness, as well as axels, and an obd1 ecu. does this sound about right?

ahh, yes cable to hydro!! other than that, does it look like ive got it? is their any body work that needs to be done in order to clear the alternator, or custom mounts to keep the a/c?

Hey, i kno this is kinda off topic but im lookin for a d16 head for d15 mini-me swap! jus a temporary fix till i can get the type r swap. so any body got a d16 head for sale?

i do believe the crossmember needs to be notched where the header goes down..but im not 100% sure...also doesnt the chassis where the crank pulley is..need to be dented to clear the pulley(or just get rid of ac/ps) and get the plley for just alt.

i do..its a d16y5 vtec-e

complete? if so how much? im jus lookin to get my ef back on the road, walkin sux! lol

If you're just trying to get it running again then I'd look for a non-VTEC head or just a whole other D15 motor. You can get them for dirt cheap; check out Craigslist.

If you wanna do the VTEC head then you're also gonna need a new ECU and you're gonna have to do some wiring. If you do another non-VTEC head, then you can just drop it on and go. I don't know about you but I'd rather spend the least amount of money possible on fixing it for now so you can put that money towards your swap instead.

Just an idea...good luck with it...
