Hello I am new here and I own a 1991 Red Honda CRX HF. Bone Stock. I love the great gas mileage that i get with it. The only problem is that I recently learned that the engine is leaking oil ALL over. it would be about 1000 is seal work alone. So I am looking at just swapping it out for a crate engine from japan. The car has about 200,000 miles and I would really like to keep it for more. i of course heard about these crate motors, but i don't know the best place to get one. Schucks said they generally cost about 450 not including shipping. I live in the Olympia washington area so any place near there would be helpful.

Also I am wondering where the best place to get a fan blower motor would be. The one in my car is dying out and honda sells them for about 200+. Any suggestions?

cool I checked them out. What about general Honda parts where would I find those? and are there any other Honda engine sites?

well what kind of parts are you looking for

I would like to try and get a better exhaust for my car. One that wouldn't sound like a ricer exhaust and be way too loud, but also one that would last a long time.

Also I am looking for a fan blower motor as I don't get much heat out of what i am using right now.

well in that case i think ebay will be the best place, im sure they will have both on there . i like the greddy exhaust

are the front and rear mains leaking or is it just the valve cover and oil pan?

:)

no it is leaking oil ALL over. The valve cover, oil pan, around the intake manifold. Everywhere. Basically everywhere that it could leak, it is. So now I am just looking for a stock crate 1.5 L 8 valve D15B6, but nobody seems to have one. I tried that site and all they have is the JDM 1.6 L. Any other suggestions?

well if you was down my way id sale you one hela cheap, but it wouldnt be that hard at all to swap a d15b vtec motor in there on a scale of 1-10 on swap level its a 0.5

yes but this is on a scale of SWAPPING.

for the difficulty of any swap compared to the overall difficulty of working on any car, a swap is not that easy for someone who is new to cars. it would help if people like yourself (the thread starter) would tell us a little about your mechanical abilities. for people like me who actually want to give you some good advice, it is really difficult because the questions you are asking suggest that you really know very little about cars.

so, if you really want some helpful advice, start by telling us a little about yourself. how have you worked on cars before. did you take apart and re-construct your toys as a kid. how much money do you want to spend. do you want more power, and how much. do you have a garage with lots of fun tools. etc...

you see, getting involved with your car is not as simple as hopping on a forum and asking a quick question that takes you 30 seconds to type. it is so much more... anyway, before i get carried away i will see what sort of a reply this provokes, if any at all.

with care

:)

:werd: :withstupid:

but, it sounds like you just want the stock motor back in there.. i say at least get the d16a6 from the SI

ok I will tell you a little about myself. then I will reply to the other posts at the bottom.
I am a 23 year old senior college student about to get my degree from The Evergreen State College. I like to think I know at least a little about cars but lacking the tools and garage and stuff like that I rarely do heavy work on them at all. My father is a mechanic and I at least know how cars work, way more than the average person, but I have never done any serious engine work or clutch or tranny rebuilds. I have though replaced brakes Disk and Drum replaced standard stuff like filters oil, gas, air. I change my own oil. I have replaced my spark plugs in my spec 5 and tranny fluid and i am gonna put on the D/S disk rotors right when i get them. Hmm lets see. I have done exhaust work on my spec 5 and Honda. i know a little about audio systems. I have installed multiple stereos.

So yeah, I currently own two cars.
A 2005 Kia Spectra 5.
Heres the Car Domain link and all that i have done to it. 2005 Kia Spectra 5

and of course a 91 Honda CRX HF
Trade for Our Scion

So doing a swap would be out of the question if it wasn't directly the same engine. I cannot as of today find a D15B6 ANYWHERE. They apparently never imported those engines. So I am going to try and repair whats wrong with it. In the next post I will repeat what the mechanic wrote down.

Ok so this is what the mechanic wrote down. All of these pertain to the oil leaks.

1. Cam Seal: Frt CR/Shaft Seal W/timing belt. 2.8 hrs
2. Valve cover .5 hrs (0 hrs w T/Belt and seals)
3. Dist "o" ring .8
4. Rear CR/shaft seal 5.2
5. L&R Final Dr. Seals 2.0 hrs

Also T.O. Brg Sticking on guide. would be repaired with rear crankshaft seal repair.

So what do you all think? If I had the time and parts and a certified mechanic (my dad) is this worth it or even doable?

to me that is a lot of trouble to save a motor that is at the bottom of the pile. i see your situation more clearly, and thanks, but if you are going to go through the trouble of changing the entire motor you might as well upgrade. the d16a6 would probably be the easiest and it would be a pretty big difference in pickup.

you seem interested in working on cars so i would say do more research, get a plan together, and set aside some time to work on it with your dad. sounds like a lot of fun really.

:)

but seriously, you should at least put in the a6 while you're at it...

but the D15B6 was the only one that was able to get the phenomenal gas mileage. I mean the engine still runs, it just leaks oil. I could just keep driving it and change the oil every 3K i suppose. But I just wanted to try and save this one instead of doing a whole swap.

are you doing this on purpose??

HUH??!!

:)

Wow, you people here don't seem to get the point. The guy WANTS his stock motor. He's not looking for added performance. Stop telling him to upgrade and answer his questions.

vg_Ace - I'd say find a nice looking motor in a junk yard and just swap it in. Way easier than trying to repair the old one. If you can't find one, pull the whole motor, rebuild it and drop it back in. Trust me, Honda swaps are easy. I had 0, nada, no experience before doing my b16 swap and that is way more complicated than removing and reinstalling the stock motor. Since your dad has the tools, why not just do it right?
