It's only stupid if it doesn't work

The goal here is a 12 second car for 5k-7k. It will also see autocross. But will most likely be my DD. I really only need opinions on the chassis for this build though. It will be a turbo LSV with the possibility of nitrous as well. I already have the built motor and cable tranny.

Option 1-CRX- Extremely light, but will require OBD1 conversion and is really a no frills car. Will stay extremely stock, maybe a lip.

Option 2-Integra- I already have it. It is a very comfortable car. It will require a tranny swap and OBD1 conversion. I'll also do a 98+ bumper conversion (at least the front). The fact that the tranny needs to be swapped negates having to do a hydro to cable swap.

Option 3-Del Sol-Very light, wont require any real work except a cable mount from Hasport. Middle of the road for comfort. Would get an EG front end conversion.

All cars will more than likely get a $50 paint job so body work and paint shouldn't be a big factor in decisions.

I'm all about the 5gen hatches.

On that note, crx cuz I had one of those too.

crx.pre 90's they are extremely light, and with minor suspension work should be able to handle decent enough for autocross, plus any swap in those cars would be quick or just throwing a turbo quit on the stock motor. The d-series motors are also very light.

12's? $5k?

Foxbody 5.0 or 3rd Gen with gears and nitrous.

just as an FYI im recommending it just for the pure fact that a built LSV + Turbo + Nitrous is going to put you dangerously close to your budget. I figure its easier to convert the integra (since you already have it) and its cheaper and easier than finding a CRX or EG for 2k. (i dont know if they are cheaper up north because of the rust/salt, but in TX EGs and CRXs go for 3-5k)

Are you including the price of the car too? Cuz that will def. sway my decision. And you shouldn't even worry about having "frills" cuz if you want your car that fast for cheap, your gonna be pulling the whole interior out.

The del sol isn't that light. Only reason to go for the del sol is if you wanted the two seater with a targa top, in every other category the other cars beat it.

You forgot about the AutoX part.

I voted CRX; lightweight means less power needed to get it going(therefore more power would move it even faster) and should handle well for AutoX. Spend all the money on good tires and suspension. There are turbo-D's running 12 and low 13s so a mild turbo LSV should definitely be capable. If anything, just keep it a straight-up LS to save cost.

i voted for integra because it would be a lot less hassle to build that up. You wouldnt need to spend time and money on finding another shell to play with and your build will be done faster.

I forgot to mention that if I go Del Sol or CRX I'll be getting it in trade for the Integra or with the money from it. I'm not going to keep it if I get something else.

The car is not included in the price I guess you would say. Just like if I pull a stock motor and sell it, that's not included in the budget either.

The budget is my Integra plus 5-7k. (More than likely 7k)

At the moment I'm leaning CRX. But this build doesn't need to be done by any particular date. I'm going to look for a deal/steal(figuratively) on a CRX with a B already in it in the next few months. I would like to be done by summer but this is still a budget project.

Any more opinions?

This is still going to be a daily. It will have heat, probably no AC(I like windows sunroof better anyway), and I would like to keep the majority of the interior.

I already have the built LSV ($1300 from a member here). As for turbo I'm still not sure if it will be homemade or bought, prob homemade. And will be a dual stage for street or track. Nitrous is still a debate for me. But it would be a direct port shot. Nothing more than 25-50.
