So I got the axe today. This is a really shitty story.

I got a ticket for a having a pistol in my car 4 years ago, paid it and everything was cleared. I have told all of my employers about it and when filing for my stockbrokers license with each company, they know all about it. Well, this time around, the company employment application was pretty complex and I thought the wording was for being incarcerated only, not just having a misdemeanor. I never went to jail so I thought I should mark "no". The HR department called me 3 weeks ago and asked me about the "incident" so I disclosed the whole story about it. They replied with an email saying that the issues was being handled.

So today i got an email saying that a had a meeting with my branch manager and supervisor at 8am. We had a conference call and they asked me if I had anything I didn't disclose. I told them about an issue I had with my degree and the whole gun story and that I had already told HR about it. They proceded to tell me that I omitted it off of my application and even though I told hr when question, i was forced into an "involuntary separation" for omittance of information. I was required to immediately return my key and id badge and be escorted out.

Fuck. So i talked with my manager and he is extremely disappointed. He said I was a rising star with the company and they are going to take a big loss by not having me anymore. It gets worse, they (HR) did say if i could get it removed from my record, they might still be able to hold my job. I called an attorney, and since it has been 3 years, if i pay $1000 i could get it removed. Well, I tell my manager about it, he makes some calls, and come to find out they wont take me back even if it's cleared.

I had to leave on the spot. I am not eligible for any insurance and unemployment is not an option. I'm blacklisted from Fidelity. Now i'm unemployed.

Cliffs:
gun charge cleared.
wrong box on application marked, told HR about it
still bad
cut like a fucking christmas tree a week before xmas.

Sucks, but hit up another financial company. The industry overall has an average keep ratio of 5% if the first year, they're always looking for seasoned reps and will gladly take you in.

Northwestern Financial Network is who I had my contract with and they were very good to me as a financial rep/intern.

The thing with Fidelity is that there is no cold calling/marketing/after hours. It's a great company. I was set to get promoted in June and make well over $120k. I'm bummed that I thought I finally had it all together. A great career, great woman, everything was rolling. Now I have to find a job again, money is still tight at a bad time.

Well I can't say there's NO cold calling at Northwestern, but most of the work is done off of referral calls that you build from your own network and then you branch outward. None of the reps that are successful are doing actual cold calls.

Ouch, man. It obviously sucks and sorry to hear about it. It makes me wish people could see that you're a respectable citizen now and drop the previous crap. As my father has always told me, "It's just a job.". But then again, I'm not on my own yet. Good luck.

ya, they know it's all cleared up, the issue boils down to the fact that i didn't fill out the application correctly. it came back to bite me in the ass.

I just think that's ridiculous though, because it's not like you purposefully lied or tried to cover something up, you just made a slight error on a confusing part of the application.

That really sucks man, I hope it all works out for you.

I have a lot of support from my girlfriend so that helps me a lot. They don't tolerate any mistakes on the application. Intentional or not. It fucking sucks.

Im gonna be the devil's advocate here. It sucks that you lost your job, but you have to understand how many douche bags lie on applications. It sucks, but they cant make exceptions ever, or else it becomes a precedent.

I look at it this way man (im not religious fyi), but everything happens for a reason. I got fired from a kick ass job a few months back, and ended up with an even better one making even more money. It seems shitty now, but not working there opens you up for better opportunities in the future.

I know the timing sucks, and it feels better to leave on your own terms, but you have to look at the positives. There are a lot better firms than fidelity.

That really sucks Nick, I'm sorry about everything. Pretty shitty that you got the axe over something as petty as a misunderstanding on the application, but what can you do about it now? Don't let it get to you, shit happens in life. The best thing you can do is get over it, know that it must have happened for a reason, and look for better opportunities that confront you because of it. Good luck with everything.

The woman who works as hiring specialist/liaison with HR said to me, as I was filling out my contract paperwork, "you know, be sure to disclose everything. sometimes people think they can get away with things and fail to disclose they had a misdemeanor pot offense. a small offense like that won't prevent us from hiring them,, but if they fail to disclose it, then they're automatically gone. One time, we had this guy who failed to disclose something and I thought it was just a small offense. Apparently, he was arrested for arson twice."

me - *blinks*

her - yup, he burned someone's house down. that was a definite no go.

My friend's brother in law was arrested for arson, and he KEPT THE MONEY from the arson job.

Everyone in the area knows it - he was on CNN.com for it, because he's also a firefighter

He borrowed MY gas can to do it

And he gets job offers all the time, and women in droves. I don't get it. Oh, and he's also metrosexual and REFUSES to do any labor.

why would a firefighter use gas to commit arson?
i thought you hire firefighters to do arson cause they can make it look natural, or at least have an in with the fire investigator so it clears the books as an accident

move to ct, get your concealed carry permit, and you can have a gun on you at all times

ACtually, funny loophole there.

They make that so that when you DO do something bad, they can toss you away forever. But federal law (constitutional) does not make room for state or private regulations on that.

I can put up a sign on my porch that says "no firearms". But the Fed says "Yes, firearms" and overrides me.

So in Schools, university campus, BANKS and some state offices, like the DMV, you CAN carry.

they said if i would have disclosed on the original application that i would still have my job. even though i told hr about it, the fact was there is ZERO tolerance, even if it was a mistake on my part and purely misinterpretation.

I have my washington state ccw.

After talking with the wife, we have come to the conclusion that my manager could have helped me more than he did. He had time to warn me about it and give me a heads up, but chose to protect himself by letting me be blindsided. Even though he loves me, it is easier for him to replace me than to have my back.

Fuck I hate corporate bullshit.
