Sorry i don't know if this is the right forum to post this in.
I was doing some research on the website debating weather or not to do a ls/vtec boosted or a ls boosted. I have a 90 civic hb with a b18. I am going to do the boosted ls because i want to do it right and do the bottem end on the ls/vtec.(Too much money right now) Could you please tell me what you think.
I am going to get a turbonetics t3/4 with a 60 or 63a/r. A 28x12x3 intercooler. Will be running greddy b-spec 2, msd 6al, and the question...should i run the aem fuel/ignition controller or do you know of something better. I will learn how to tune my own car. Thats why i want a management system that I can tune on a lab top. I have heard that the greddy e-manage is no good and the hodata units aren't that great either. I do not want to spend the money on a stand alone. Plus i don't think i will need it. You guys think that a set up like this will push me close to the 400whp mark?? Thank you for all your feed back, it is much appreciated.

Hey, great choice on the turbocharger and intercooler. Turbonetics makes great stuff.

Now, ditch the greddy b-spec. Get a chipped and socketed ecu from phearable.net and tune with crome or neptune. Both are fairly inexpensive and produce GREAT tunes. I'm sure there's a tuner in your area that is familiar with one of them.

400 whp on stock pistons and rods will not last long, if at all. You'll need to beef up those internals if you're looking for numbers like that.

The thing with the greddy b spec 2 is that i would like 2 boost settings that i can use. My brother has the b spec 2 on his talon and it pretty handy. Is it pointless to spend the money on the boost controller? I forget to mention that in the post. I will be using scat or eagle h-beam rods and eagle 9:1 pistons. I you think those are bad choices, please let me know your opinion. I should be able to reach that whp mark though?? thank you very much for your input.

sorry forgot to ask something. I heard that crome tuning is for obd-1 and up. Is that true. Also...this is going to sound stupid....do i buy the crome software and download it on to my labtop??? Or sould i just leave it to my performance shop(Evolution in Maple ridge BC)

There's another program called turboedit I think you can use for OBD-1. Google turboedit see what you come up with.

Eagle makes great internals.

Turboedit is another program that people use. I don't know too much about it but I assume its fairly similar to CROME, Hondata, Neptune, etc.

You do not have to buy the CROME software unless you use CROME PRO.
It downloads directly to your laptop, and you can even download a ballpark basemap for your setup.

Its just better off to run a full on tuning program because that way you have a tune for a power level. When you change boost levels you'll need to change maps as well which can be a pain from what I have heard.

no matter which tune you go with, and if you hit the 400 whp mark, the ls motor in your car with a turbo setup should be a quick car regardless. But I would say good choice on the eagle internals they are a very good brand that comes with a reputation of being used on a ton of widely known and respected cars.

do you guys know of anyone on this site with the same type of set up?? eg. an ef with b18a turbo with big power?? Just curious. Would like to check out someone elses car. I searched, but its hard to find what your looking for. thanks again you guys are great:thumbsup:

Do a google search. You're much better off that way. I'm sure someone on here has one, but the odds of you finding them on here or them looking at this thread is pretty slim.

matts96hb.... You don't have to answer this if you don't want. I need help.

I have looked around this site and i can't find anything that is close to my problem.(I think). I have an 89 civic dx. I swapped a d16a6 into it with all si wiring. Now after days of trying to start it, it finally ran on its own. I let it run for about 5-8mins. I tried giving it some throttle and the car will not rev past 2000rpm. Now it sounds a little ruff. So i shut the car down. Waited a bit. Started the car again...now the car will not idle on its own. I have done a compression test(right after i let it run for the 5-8mins.) the results were #4-185 #3-180 #2-175 and #1-190. so my knowledge leads me to believe that the head gasket must be descent. So my questions are: 1. Why will my car not rev past 2k and won't idle on it own, and 2. i have oil coming from the front left corner of the head, and the front right corner behind the timing cover.(where the head meets the block) Please help. Any reply will help me. thank you very much. Oh i will try to send the video of the car running so you can hear what it sounds like.
