that's a jdm vin tag I do believe, hence it is 18 digits long with a j at the beginning, usdm vins being 17 digits long. I suppose I could be wrong though...

judging by the VIN tag and its order, if my memory serves me right, it is an integra transmission. notice the "DC4" in the VIN?? DC is the integra chassis. It could be an LS, or GSR transmission equivalent. I know in the US, you really cant tell the difference from obd1 LS/GSR trannies for they have the same transmission code. You would have to run the VIN on it to find out what car it came out of. But since yours is JDM, your pretty much going to have to research online. Try contacting the ppl @ TorontoJDM.com - Total Japanese Domestic Motor they might be able to help.

jdm motors and tranny doesnt have vin plates, they have the holes for it, but not the plate itself. and also jdm plates holes doesnt have treads, just a plain hole.

if ur in 5th gear doing 80 and the rpm is at about 4-4.5 then its gsr.

5th gear doing 80 and the rpm is under 4 then its ls.

b16 trannys u be 5200 rpm doing 80.

Thats funny, because the 1st gen b16a I have has a "jdm" VIN plate on it. Must just be you :D

99-00 b16 tranny, at 80mph, you will be at roughly 4500 rpm.
96 gsr tranny, at 80mph, you will be at 4000 rpm.
95 LS tranny, at 80 mph, you will be at roughly 3200-3500 rpm. This being from my personal experiences.

I think my LS tranny was spinning at about 3500 at 80.

I'm not sure of the gsr yet because I can't get it into 5th due to a bad synchro. Damn you ebay!

I just ran that vin number and it came back with a 1998 acura integra ls.

If it was a GSR it would read "DC2". "DC4" is the code for an LS coupe, hence it's an LS transmission.

JDM transmissions most definitely do have VIN tags on them. I have a JDM S80 (LS) and it also has a tag on it. A USDM vin is 17 digits long, while a JDM vin is 18 digits long starting with a J. Also, if you enter the vin on the green tag on a vin decoder website (google "vin decoder"), then it will give you date of manufacture, location of manufacture, make, model, year, engine size, and the other various information. It sounds like you got a tranny with the vin tag scraped off of it, probably because it was stolen.

DC2/4 simply clarifies the chassis code. You can actually get all the information about the car right off of the VIN if you know how to read a VIN. I learned this in school a long time ago. Pretty interesting stuff.

As for your theory about the dc2/4, the LS transmission came in other models, such as rs, gs, and type-r.

I ran the number on mine and it said that it came out of a 1996 JDM Integra GSR equipped with LSD. That makes me happy if only I had 3rd and 4th...

I know how to read a VIN, thanks. And sorry, I should have been more specific with my explanation. DC4 is the designation for a non-VTEC Integra coupe, so therefore an RS, LS, or GS coupe would all be considered a DC4.

FYI though, the Type R most certainly did NOT come with an LS transmission. The R's tranny is one of the great things about it: B16 gearing and LSD. That's a far cry from an LS transmission.

And a Type R would be labeled DC2 as well. Like I said earlier, the difference is VTEC or non-VTEC, not GSR or non-GSR.

is the gsr tranny a stonger one. or is it basically just a re-geared ls tranny. I may be interested in doing the ls tranny swap to help keep the r's down on interstate, but only if its still as strong, in the way that its made.

IMO, GSR trannies are the best all around b-series tranny.. the gearing sits you lower in the RPM band than the b16 or type r tranny.. you want to stay away from the LS tranny.. the gearing is super long and you'll be extremely dissatisfied

and yea.. GSR trannies have a stronger differential..
