i have an 88 accord 4 door and i want to get a motor swap. what type will fit? h22? i need to know.

good luck with that project !!

go with the accord lx FI and turbo it .compression ratio on those motors are great for boosting , less headache and less money

how much money do you have? anything will fit if you have a big enough budget. but really, there's only one set of engines that will bolt in besides the a20a/a18a/a16a engines. that would be the b18a from the jdm version of the 3g accord and the b20a of the jdm/edm 3g accord or vigor. 3geez Forums is the site you need to browse if you're really serious about swapping your 3rd gen.

yup 3geez has alot of good info

and yeah id go with a JDM B20A 5speed very fucking rare tho u have to get them from NZ
but if your intrested heres a link
3geez

H22

I Strongly recommend AGAINST the H22A because of its size. It will virtually drag which will cause headaches. Also, unless you are gonna build the H22, then its not worth it. I suggest either a B16 or B18.

Thanks for bringing back a dead thread...

And FYI for anyone reading this, the H22 is not really than much heavier than a B18. Your handling won't be severely affected.

first off B20a rare??? hardly..... Tiger Japanese Auto Parts LTD - B20A DOHC Engine only Honda Prelude 88-91

also i wouldnt go that route cus i personally own a B20a in my 3rd gen prelude, there isnt a whole lot of performance background for these motors... yes there are some numbers out there in the 500+ range... but they werent cheap

now back onto the H22 swap, since the B20a will drop in these cars the H22 shouldnt be any harder.... yes it will get spendy but it will be unique... since the accord of this gen is very similar to the 3rd gen preludes this swap should be cake walk (only issue is wiring but there are Rywire kits available).... here are some links for the swap in the prelude, should be identical:

Team Interlude's 3rd Gen Prelude H22 Swap Writeup
H22 Vtec SWAP conversion WRITE uP; An Introduction. Long. - Preludepower.com
Honda-Tech.com: Hybrid: 1991 3 GEN PRELUDE JDM H22A PROJECT.

also after reading some of the reviews of this swap, the difference between the B20 and the H22 is only about 30lbs.... now the oil pan hangs a lil low so ground clearance might be a issue as well in the accord......

the choice is yours.... good luck

I seriously gotta start paying attention to tha date on these lol

Also, the H22 really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The 86-89 Accord already has a 2 liter motor in it, so an H22 isn't really going to be that much heaver. You can always upgrade the suspension as well. New shocks and springs should be on your list for any kind of a serious build anyway...

Just a little FYI for you.

alright, there's much misinformation in your post. i suggest you go cruise around 3geez - Powered by vBulletin. the jdm b20a we're referring to here is NOT the same jdm b20a that fits the 1988-1991 (3g) preludes. it's from the 1984-1987 (2g) preludes and 1986-1989 (3g) accords. although the jdm versions of these engines have the same engine code, they're not the same engine. easiest way to spot the difference is that 3g prelude engines lean backwards, the 2g prelude/3g accord engine leans forwards. the proper engine will be a bolt-in affair into this accord because the mounts are the same (minus rear tranny mount) and the wiring is basically the same as well. the 3g prelude b20a will not bolt in at all due to it leaning backwards and will require welding job and by time you do that, you might as well do an h22.

if it's not fuel injected you will need to make your own wiring harness if it's fuel injected you can get an adapter for what ever motor you do put in it
