How To H22 TB on F22B1

So around the shop I was just measuring spare throttle bodies with a caliper. Seeing which would all fit on the b1 plenum. Come to find out the h22 was the biggest and would bolt right up.

Tools needed-
3/8 ratchet
12mm Deep Well socket
10mm socket
Dremel Tool
Burr grinder
Dremel accessories to smooth and polish

Materials needed-
H22 Throttle Body
12inches of 1/4ID coolant hose
H22 Throttle Body Gasket


Size of H22 TB-62.01mm is what I was coming up with.

The size of your stock F22B1 TB is- 57.11mm is what I was coming up with.

I didnt take pics but the back of the TB was H22 with 58mm and F22b1 with 53mm. Making a 5mm larger increase. Doing the math thats an 8% increase.
Notice the H22 intake manifold how it opens up as the further you go into the plenum.

As in the B1 plenum it does not open up the deeper it goes, just a straight shot in the plenum.

Step one -
Unplug the Map sensor, TPS sensor, and unhook the two coolant pipes from the throttle body, also the Vacuum line needs to be disconnected. Using the 12mm deep well remove the two bolts and two nuts holding the TB on. Disconnect the Throttle Cable and if you have one Cruise Control cable. Then you may remove the TB gently not to tear the B1 gasket up. ( You may change your mind and not complete the job and have to put it back together for some reason)

Step 2-
Take the H22 TB gasket and put it on the B1 plenum as you would to install. Taking a sharpie draw the line around the inside the area that need to be removed.

Step 3-
Taking a rag and stuffing it in the plenum first making sure you keep the most amount of metal from going into the motor.(There is a lot of metal to remove. Using the burr grinder start removing the aluminium to the black line you just drawn. Since the area to be removed is larger then the hole itself. You'll need to go in about 2 1/2 inches removing metal. Running it up at a slight slope.

Step 4-
Once done removing the metal take a 60grit sanding wheel on the Dremel Tool and smooth out all the rough edges.

Take a blow tip and blow all the excess metal shavings away from the motor and pull the rag out then blow into the plenum. You can also use a Shop Vac to remove the debris inside the Manifold.

Swap your FIAV from the F22B1 TB onto the H22 TB.

Take the H22 TB gasket and put it on and then bolt the H22 TB onto the plenum, Using the 12inch coolant hose run it from the TB back to the IACV since the location changed from Throttle Bodies. Hook up the other coolant line, plug back in the sensors and plug up the vacuum line. Connect the air/charge piping and you should be done. Start up and check idle. Adjust idle if necessary.

I am trying to figure out what you would do with the map sensor if you weren't running a 3 bar like my self.

Also a great way to eliminate the map sensor.

Cons- Non I know of.
Pros- Put a little bit more pep in the low end. Also gives you more room for potential.
 
you guys are all crazy for doing it like that. take the damn thing off and powerwash it when you are done. theres soooo much disgusting carbon in the plenum and runners.
 
will this work the same with the f22b2
Yes it will work and if you want to retain the map sensor, use a OBD-2 h22 TB of a 97+ prelude.

Any B,D,F,H TB's are all inter-swappable one way or another. K-series will not work, the biggest I have found that will work is a 2005+ S2000. The K20 would be the biggest at 66mm. Its a shame it wouldnt work. Also with the b1/b2 Intake Manifold design I really dont see it gettting ported bigger than a 64-65mm. Not enough room.
