will the sound be totally different between catback exhaust and just muffler?

thinking about getting magnaflow for my 5th gen accord and wanted to know.

or will there be HP difference between w/ catback and w/o it?

thanks

If the catback is a larger diameter than your stock pipe, it should free up previously restricted exhaust flow and free up 2 or 3 horses. For best results you should get a performance header with it.

Just a muffler won't do shit except make noise.

Unless you get a muffler with a glasspack :D. They sound almost just like catbacks at least this one I heard on a rice eg did. But if you break the glass it'll sound like SHIIIIIT.

my car is..

what kind of car is it going on and what motor

i've got a 97 accord 2.2L non vtec.

i know its not a good motor. i thought about motor swap but budge is way lower than what i need. looking to swap auto to manual though lol

the question is when....

go to youtube and type in accord exhaust good way to see how it will sound

yeah thats actually what ive been doing for about an hour but couldn't find a videos to compare between w/ and w/o catback

thanks though :)

if you put just the muffler part on you are a ricer. and then it makes the sound high pitch whinny rice sound. if you catback+header it sounds way nicer

Deleting the cat from your exhaust will make it sound different, removing resonator/s will also change the sound. My hatch sounds good but its louder than i like with 2.5" piping, no resonator but still has the cat on it. I like quiet, so I will probably just buy a greddy sp2 muffler and have it welded onto my piping or bolted if possible.

go with a cat-back as they mentioned before a muffler is just for sound. Also I agree with the headers, but I would throw in a test pipe where your cat is and keep your cat for emisions. But then you will feel a power difference. and as for a cheap swap you could swap the head, or you could buy yourself an h23. they are pretty cheap. I got my old one for $400.

well if you live in a state where there aren't any emissions regulations you can run straight from the headers. it's a waste of gas but really loud and the expressions on people's faces when they hear you pass by are priceless. other than that go with a a catback system.

another one a lot of people dont think of off the track is straight header. i had a friend who had his pipe rust out right in front of the cat. he was too cheap to fix it and the rest of his exhaust was pretty much just left hanging on mounts so the cops wouldnt stop him. loud as hell and im sure it added a lil power even though we never really checked. i dont think its a good idea but you could consider it.

Who cares what it sounds like well I guess maybe you do, I think you should get something that will free the exhaust up and give you a minor kick to the butt dyno but what do I know. Oh and you may want to look into a header as well then.
