ok i just bought this civic from him and its a d15b1 but i have been reading up and everything i see said its 8 v and this is a 16 v and i need to figure out what motor it is would it be a d15b2 head and intake ??? i need help with this i have no compression on the number 3 cylinder has 0 so i thank one of my valves are burnt i would like to find another motor and tranny seeing that it has a four speed tranny lol i don't know if i posted this in the wrong form and if i did just tell me and i will change it to where it needs to be :/ sorry for the bad spelling to :)

D15B1 engines are 16 valve, not 8 valve - the only 8 valve OBD0 D-series engine is the 88-91 CRX HF D15B6

ok i am not to sure with this stuff lol i can build dirtbikes and street bikes but a car i don't know anything about lol i want to build this motor some or swap it to a better motor i just need to figure out everything i have now in oreder to get a motor and stuff i want to build it up with out turboing it then maybe turbo later i started doing some body work because it is beat up some in the back and i need to get it done then i want to build the motor

any engine that you swap into it, other than another D15B1 or a D15B2 will require that you convert it from Dual Point Fuel Injection (which you have now) to Multi Point Fuel Injection - the simplest swap would be the 88-91 Civic/CRX Si D16A6 engine which is 108hp, or more than 50% more than the 70hp of the D15B1 - the D16A6 will bolt right in and is a good starting point if you want to turbo it later - any 88-91 Civic/CRX 5 speed transmission will bolt right in without changing anything else - the best transmission for acceleration is the Si model

You can turbo that stock motor :) Well, you'd want to convert to MPFI. A lot of people do "homemade" setups using the stock STD/HF/CX exhaust manifolds. You can also swap in the A6 cam(use Y8 camgear) for some more power.

hmmm that is thought but i don't thank the stock motor would hold up to a turbo lol the cam i have thought of but i have to go find on lol i am headed to the local junk yard on monday to see what i can find hope i can find a full motor there

Well, the D15 has a "safer" rod-ratio than the D16A6, and the heads are of the same casting ;) If anything, the D15 is just about as beefy as a D16 minus the rods. Even then, FJT on D-series.org is working on some cheap H-beams for us D15 guys. ;)

Not saying don't go D16A6; just saying you can still turbo the D15 and it be just as reliable. Just don't get too boost happy.

so what do you suggest for the d15b1 motor to make it more powerful i am going to put new rods mains and rings and maybe pistons if there bad when i get to them but i need to find out what i am gonna do i started today buy pulling out most of the enterer because there is alot of random stuff that was not needed lol i just trying to get ideas togeather and i have read alot on here and there are some sweet cars i have seen everyone on here building so i figured i would try to see what you guys and ladys thought about it :)

Well, what are your goals for the car? If you're just looking to give it a little more umph(say around 200whp tops), then keep the stock motor in there and just boost it. With cheaper H-beam rods for the D15 coming out, I say it's better to just keep that block unless it blows; then swap in a D16.

i have read that this motor is only 70 hp i want to put a new cam in it new rods mains rings pistons different trany four speed i am not a fan of geared weired, and if the d16 can push 140ish stock if i can find one of them and fix it up then drop it in and see if i can push around 240 with no boost wouls that be easyer ??? i am just throwing around ideas and seeing what you say because once agian i have not to do much to car motors i am a motorcycle guy lol but would like to start building some cars and learn alot more lol but if you say i can run stock d15b1 and push around 200 out of it that would be a good start till i can get another motor to build out of frame

d15b1 with an d16a6 cam is about as good as a d16a6, I've read. I think you need a different cam gear though.

Yes, a Y8 cam gear.

The B1 is rated stock that low; but it's the cam, exhaust manifold, and intake manifold/injection system that make much lower.

There's a guy on D-series.org that has a 162whp All-Motor D15B :) The highest N/A horsepower D-series was a D15 also, around 270whp.

Boosted, the D15's are right about the same as D16s, minus the rods. I've seen anywhere from 160whp-270whp on homemade boosted setups, that's both D15 and D16s,

Oh and stock, the D16A6's make around 100-105whp IIRC.

240whp, you're not going to see without boost unless you have Bisi himself build you the motor(it's a lot of work and money).

ok so a d16a6 cam will bring it more to life ??? i do not expect this thing to run like a drag car lol but i would like to have some power there its killing me now i think light to light a geo would make me want to go hide lol but ok i will look and see if i can find a cam tommorow from a d1616 and the cam gear i think i have seen on ebay but i could be wrong u said y8 cam right ??? thank you guys for helping me with this on later on down the road i would like to do a swap with a bigger motor but lets start with more simple stuff lol

ok i found a 91 Honda accord with a five speed tranny its a f22 ( a1, a4, a6 i am not sure about) i am not sure if it is a dohc or sohc yet i have to go look at it still i can get the hole car for cheap and the motor was just replaced ad runs good how hard would it be to do that swap or is it even possible . i am still trying to figure out what motors would drop into what frames easy i am kinda new at this hole car thing i have worked on street and dirt bikes my hole life so i wanted to give a car a try lol

Requires a mount kit, cable-hydro conversion linkage, and installing the shift linkage/shifter(F and H uses cable). Would also require axles. It swaps in just like a H-series motor.

Another way to get it in is an F2D kit, which uses D-series transmission and clutch. Would require a custom motor mount though and some modifications to the oil pan/block for axle clearance and possible a smaller/aftermarket crank pulley.

The F22 is also quite a bit heavier and so make sure you at least upgrade your brakes (EX steering knuckles with the EX brakes would be good).

For your car, I'd still go with the D16A6. If you want to stay with the D15B1, the A6's cam will work great, but there is also a restrictor plate between the throttle body and the intake manifold. You'll want to remove that as well. This, together with the A6's cam, should add around 25HP (95 total).

If you have a bent rod, I'd just find a whole A6 head and intake manifold and put that in (requires adding wires for MPFI). It would be easy and inexpensive. Even better would be to find a Z6 or Y8 head with the corresponding intake manifold, but that would include rewiring for MPFI as well as VTEC.

Either way, it will be fun. Post pics when you are done!

but if you are looking at an f22b2 I will sell you mine for $200 with everything you need except the ecu, and the mounts. Lots of extra parts included too. All you would need for the swap is the ecu, and the motor and tranny mounts for your car. That was the plan with this motor to swap it into a crx, and boost it but plan fell through. for mounts you can find a h22 mount kit and that will fit, find yourself an obd-1 conversion harness and a p28 and you got a decent motor.

hmmm looks like i ran into some problems and now am short on money lol still driving it with it burning alot of oil and one dead cylinder lol thanks for helping out i might just take you up on the f22 when i get back on my feet ty
