I know the thread name looks the same as the one below me, but I am new to this. Its my first time getting more into cars, and I've just bought a OBD1 GSR motor from this website B18C1 (GSR)B18c1. Now I would really like to know what I need for this swap to go right in my ek. I hear some people saying that I need an si motor mount, axles, etc.... I want to know the real answer, on what I am going to need in order for this motor to fit, and go right in perfectly :D. Sorry for this noobie question.....

Motor mounts, axles, shift linkage ( i think ) and thats probably about it. the rest is wiring and such. There is sites around if you look or google it on doing the swaps, they usually enplane everything you need, and everything you need to do.

2 mounts outta the SI civic,
shift linkage from gsr
axels from gsr
ecu from gsr
harness from gsr (not the whole thing though)
a/c bracket from 94-95 del sol if you want to keep your a/c

i just got mine, about to put it in this coming weekend. good luck with yours

Are you sure the axles, and shift linkage will fit from a gsr? I heard from a friend who told me that it does not fit at all .

You will have to modify the shift linkage in the car just like any normal swap. The axles from what i had to do on my H22 swap was get new hubs mounted so it would work in my hatch. If there is a shop close to you ask them. They will usually be cool and make out a list of what you need.

Ok thanks for taking your time guys!! Now all I have to do is wait for the motor to get here! Man jazzproparts never pick up their phones for some reason:confused:. It also says my order is still being processed, but anyways thanks for your help guys, appreciate it!

well, i just finished the tear down (sorta) on my GSR.

pulled the tranny (S80) off, all the cut up hoses and junk, pulled the headers off, power steering pump, ... all kinds of crap.

upon removing the intake tube, i noticed a thick black goo coming out of the throttle body and intake manifold for that matter. It appears to be like really old oil something.

... would they put that in there to keep the motor from rusting and seizing up by chance?
Did it maybe get tipped on its side/upside down and dump into the intake manifold by chance?

man i hope nothing is wrong with this thing. Im gonna pull off the intake manifold tomorrow night and clean it out and see if i can see wtf is going on.

ill tell you .. this thing has been a son of a bitch to deal with with no cherry picker or engine stand/hoist. I just went and bought one 3 hours after i was into this whole deal .. lol.. what a idiot. anyways, the engine will be ready tomorrow for a coat of ceramic coating. if i feel up to it, ill take it to work and just powder coat the block and misc. pieces.

anyone know what header/exhaust i need for this thing. i would like to keep make this so its all bolt up into my car. i dont want to have to go have custom exhaust welded up on my car to make things fit.

oh! and anyone have a diagram/schematic of how to wire up a GSR to a DX 97 Ek  thanks HEH

Well it could be oil, a lot of people when they know they will be storing a motor for a long period of time will put oil in through the spark plug holes to keep rust and water out. Theres more to why its done but its 3am and i cant think lol.

so would that be something of normal for someone to do when shipping an engine in from Japan?? doesnt seem logical to me.. all i can think is that soemone turned the motor over, and oil went through the breather tube and into the intake, BUT when i removed the intake take, there was no oil in there OR the intake tube side of the TB. the entire inside of the intake manifold is just heavily coated with oil residue, its like syrup.......

HELP?? is this thing F#&*ed or what?.. they told me that the Comp test was 225 all across the board and leakdown was 6%. sound normal?? they told me leakdown is typicaly between 5-8% i think. anyways, anyone know??

Goo in the intake manifold is carbon build up. This is actually kind of a good sign because this is usually seen on motors that are not beat on or reved out on a regular basis which would clear out some of the carbon so it builds up. However it will hinder performance if you don't clean it out. Easiest way is to get the manifold hot tanked.

but its not carbon. typically carbon deposits are solid kinda ashy like. the substance is more like grape jelly but looks like oil. not as thick as bearing grease but kinda a grease/oil mix.. its really thick and heavily coated in there. nothing like ive ever seen on ANY car. ill see if i can get a pic of it up tonight.:(

So your basically saying that it is ok. and i should just pull it off the block and have the head hot tanked and replace the gasket? fuck, i might as well pull the pistons and rods and upgrade them now, and while im at it have the head reworked for bigger valves and new springs and retainers... man. what an expensive run im having... 3400 for the swap, 480 to install, wire, and chip and tun the ecu, 300 for water pump, timing belt, tensioner, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, 300 for a decent header, 100 for a decent intake, ... man. i might as well sold my fucking car and bought a dam USDM GSR..... wow, gay. and now i gotta spend about another $100 to have my head hot tanked and a new head gasket put in.

anyone know what ARP head bolts/studs are going for on a GSR? might as well do them too..:(

oh well, at least ill be smacking down Si's :D
