Anything else, like cables and stuff? Suggestions welcomed for any and all above. I'd like to stick to around 800-1000 if possible.

should come with cables, if not they are cheap. Also depending on what you're looking to do with it, spending more on the motherboard (onboard graphics and sound) will save you in the long run on purchasing seperate cards.

Lots of photoshop stuff/web design. Other than that just simple email/web usage and streaming iTunes to the the living room. Can't remember the last time I played a PC game.

wtf is a wireless modem??? lol

most boards have sound built in to them now-a-days, and unless you're doing something hi-tech, you really don't need an external card (most have 7.1 outputs too)

Why wouldn't you buy an imac then ???

I don't know - other than the ipod and express I've never been an apple fanatic since the IIGS went to the wayside. Maybe I'll go play with one at an apple store...

I guess as long as MS office apps can run on OS x it could be an option

fuck you nerd. wireless card bitch. :)

yeah seriously - just checked out a 20" iMac - 1800 bucks :(

you want office on a MAC? you're looking at 4 year old software. good luck ;) the file formats are NOT compatible with office 2007 for windows, nor will they be.

How often are you looking to play the upgrade game?

You can find boards with onboard 7.1, gigabit LAN and a decent geForce card all integrated. Since you're not playing games, and just photochopping while jamming to your iTunes, something like that would shave down a bit of cash (and needed parts).

If you're streaming anything FROM the box other than music, you will be disappointed in a wireless NIC. Stick with good ol cat5 copper. Gigabit is cheap, and wireless can't beat that kind of bandwidth yet.

yeah thermal paste is a waste unless you're overclocking or really worried about temps. Really good ones take off 2-5 degrees C over stock, but usually cost $5-10.

And repeating from above, todays intergraded features are really decent, especially audio. Oh yeah, dont for get case fans. At least 1 intake and 1 exhaust.

Anyway, here is a bad ass deal from Dell:
Dell Inspiron 530 Quad Core Q6600 ,500GB,1GB,Bluetooth,dual drives, 128MB NVIDIA 8300 $566 AC + tax shipped - SlickDeals.net Forums

Most import is Q6600 and Samsung 22" LCD for $580. Thats basically around the about you pay just for those two items. Then I would just buy two gbs of ram, and extra 500gb hard drive, separate dvd-writer for an extra 150 or so. So bascially $730 for a quad-core rig with 2gb of ram, 500+250gb hard drives, 22Lcd Monitor and burner. Not bad if you ask me.
