Have a 92 Honda Civic LX, non vtec engine D15B, automatic. Engine is shot. Gota engine from a 97, D16Y7 manual. Can i just change the exhaust and intake manifold, wiring harness, distributer from the D15B to the D16Y7. also will this engine bolt up to my 92 auto tranny. Bascially i wanna know what all i have to change to make this happen..any ecu issue , wiring and such.. Just want to keep the car stock. thanks

I read some other post, but it did,nt give me all the info.

ecu u would have to change.. cuz its a obd-2 ecu and u would need obd-1 manuel one.. ya the exhaust and intake manifold will work too.. but i would use the d16 one... im pretty sure thats v-tec too??? so u would have to run v-tec wires.... u would have to use the injectors, distributor, and the alternator i think of the d15b cuz its obd-1 and the y7 ones are obd-2 not sure about the whole manuel bolting up to the automatic mount.... but u would also need the clutch pedal assembly.. run the fluid lines.... its a project... i hope that helps..

and ur posting is in the wrong forum... probably would help out if u put it in the eg section.... 92-95 civics

Will post in other forum

Was planning on keeping it auto and using the my 92 tranny, ecu and wiring.

Thanks

Go with that.....keep your tranny, use your ecu, the y7 is non vtec, you would be best to use the y7 head on the 1.5 block, higher compression, but swapping the y7 should be stright forward, use you intake, im assuming you have a d15b7, the y7 intake is garbage, use you inkectors , your manifold, it should all bolt up, you may have to modify you timing cover on the y7 to bolt the mount up but other than that its really simple to do. You wont be sorry. It doesnt matter what obd... the engine is, the on board diagnostics is all in the ecu, not the engine. My y7 runs just fine setup and running a obd0 ecu. Good luck...

the y7 is pretty much garbage man. sorry to say. i had that engine in my car for a while I ended up throwing a rod so I swapped it out for the d16y8. much better! :) but going from the d15 you may feel a power increase.

Just trying to get the thing running!!!!!!!!! power the lease of my concern now!!!!!!!! movement is. I get to the power thing once i master the mobility issue.

As long as the engine i have can be swap and runs correct i be happy

The 92 LX that i hav have a nonvtec D15B...i think...All i know the writing on the block is D15B.

the engine i want to put in, which i remove from a hit car is a D16Y7.

just wan to keep it simple,no major surgery harness swapping....

I appreciate all the info from all u guys. U sure have more knowledge than all the so call LOCAL Honda expert.

Does it say d15b7 or just d15b? If its just a d15b, its a jdm engine that was more than likely carburated in japan. If this is the case it has higher compression pistons than a standard us model d15 sohc. I would take your y7 head and use it on your 1.5 block. This combination would make for a very good compression ratio. Even if its a b7 itll run great with your y7 head on it. The rods are weak in the y7's from what i understand ( I really hope mine holds up) but the b7,b2's are no better. I felt a very small improvement when i swapped my y7 in to my 91. Actually sometimes I feel the 1.5 was faster. If your car is currently dpfi you can keep it that way, the dual point manifold will bolt up to the y7 head with no problems, the original cast exhaust manifold will too. Since the new engine came from a manual youre gonna have to swap the flywheel out for the flexplate off your auto slushbox. its not that bad sometimes, youll need a 12 point 17 mm to get those bolts out. the manual one are different from the autos, dont mix them up.

my rods were toast on my y7 when I pulled it in favor of the y8 i got. and it is probably just worn off, unless he got extremely lucky and bught an lx from some guy who swapped in a jdm motor and didn't tell anyone...which I doubt happened.

The engine say D15B...nothin after that. It was initial a head gasket replacement, The head was completely rebuilt ,when i install it.i heard some knockin noise after i put together and crank up.
so, the d16y7 came in to salvage so i just snatch it up.

Anyway i will investigate more, B4 i replace, and if its something simple i just sell the D16y7.

Might have to go this one alone!!!!!!
On well, won,t be the 1st time

nah man, you need to research. not only are people less likely to help on a topic that has been covered over and over, you will learn so much more by reading and it will probably help you decide exactly what you want to do. car maintenance and tuning is not, nor should be, as simple as asking a question. i have actually found that although hondaswap is a great foundation for honda tuning, google usually answers more of my odd questions than i am able to find here. there are countless other sites and forums that cover topics that might be more specific to what you are trying to learn. for example, hondaswap has plenty of info on the k20a, but then there is k20a.org that focuses on JUST the k20a. as with anything in life, go as deep and specific as you can. i have started a few threads on here that get little to _no_ responses, but in the end i answer my own questions by digging deeper into the world of information.
