so i bought a megan cat back sytem for my hatch. stock direct fit converter....upon install i notice the mid pipe is 12 3/8 inches too long! bolt on my ass! the rear section went together smoothly. its too long in the middle and the hanger doesnt match the body and is off by 10 inches. anybody ever have problems like this with megan products?

I doubt that you're the only one with that problem, my apexi worldsport was the same way, it was way too short to just bolt on, so I had to take it to a muffler shop to have a flexpipe and more piping welded in...

I guess the exhaust companies can't predict the length of every single car's exhaust and previous work done to the system that may affect the length of it.

you sure you don't have the midsection on backwards?

They clearly sent you the wrong catback, thats all. Try and send it back. You have a hatchback. They probably sent you a catback for the 4door model. Ive seen this happen with EG's a few times.

If you cant send it back, take it to an exhaust specialty shop and have them cut it and re-weld it for you.

well i took the mid pipe to usa muffler down the road from me..... the guy did a really good job re -welding the flange to the pipe after it was cut off to length and the hanger moved. megan was no help..no response to emails and they didnt answer the phone. the ebayer i bought it from just said to call megan so i didnt bother sending it back to them...so far its bolting up ok but i need a flange gasket near the cat.

Just use a spring loaded flange. The exhaust shop will sell you one, but will probably charge you a lot. Goto AutoZone or Pep Boys and try and find one there.

megan racing is down the street from my shop. they always seem busy with car going in and out of their shop. I have bought some other things from them and never had a problem with them. I put one of their exhaust systems on my friends eg and it went in no problem.

Stop buying parts from eBay. :)

prolly a good idea..but i always buy products from reputable companies...i dunno..but exhaust is installed, just need the flange gasket and im good. dammit! i bet that skunk2 sounds good too

i wouldnt say its Megan Racing's fault..... cus as stated by someone above, you never know what kind of exhaust work someone had done prior.... Megan used a STOCK setup and used its measurements from there..... so unless you can verify that its stock, untouched then you might have a leg to stand on..... ive ordered alot of parts from Megan and never once have i had issues.....and i do purchases thru them for all sorts of cars that have come thru our shop...

well the only exhaust mod i had already was a 4-2-1 header...which bolted up to the rest of the exhaust perfectly. bought a direct fit cat cause the old one was welded onto the pipe. all stock piping...one thing i did see tho was the rear hanger on the body under the lip on the bumper had been broke off.

im sure this kit wasnt intended for a hatch..explains why it was longer in the middle while the rear section fit ok
