ok im goin for the swap in my 95 integra sedan im stuck between the k20 out of the rsx and the b18c5 out of the integra type r i dont know which to go with. what would you guys go with. im trying to stay N/A with some "juice" any suggestion will help. im leaning more towards the b18 b/c its a drop in and with the k i would have to do a lot more to make it fit. i really dont know which one to go with.

If you've got a shit load of money then go with the K, it's a little faster.

If 20-30 extra hp doesn't matter, you want an easy installation, less hassle, and pay half as much, then get the B18C5. But personally, I'd take a B18C1 GSR over both.

I'd stay away from K-series unless I was rich.

why do you perfer th b18c1?

Because the c5 and a k20 cost at LEAST $1,000 more and for what? 20-30 extra hp that can be achieved with bolt-ons? Not to mention if you wanted a C5 later, you could always save up and buy C5 parts they're interchangeable.

b18c1 - 175-180 hp
b18c5 - 190-200 hp
k20 - 210 hp (i believe)

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these but I'm pretty sure they're close. And with my plans to boost, a b18c1 would be the best choice.

Actually since I'm kind of on the low-income side, I'd probably take a b16 before either of those with its 160-170 hp, Specializing in JDM-USDM Engines & Parts...hmotorsonline.com sells the complete conversion for $2500.

Don't get me wrong, the b18c5 and k20 are both better motors no doubt about that. But when you compare dollar for dollar in the long run, the others win. C5 and K20 are best for al motor.

intresting i might rethink my plan im kind of low on the income side as well. so if we slap a turbo on the b18c1 roughly how much HP are we looking at?

if your low on money go with the b series if not k,,its better

There have been 350 hp stock GSR turbos.

It all depends on the tune and the quality of parts.

But yes, if your budget is low, B-Series is definately the way to go.
If youre looking to throw a turbo on there later, get the GSR. Much better setup for boost. The c5 has very high compression and is more of a naturally aspirated project.

i would like to point out that the k-series features constantly adjustable cam timing which means more torque throughout the range. do some research... this concept is also used by the dohc bmw's (vanos). all this horsepower talk seems to miss out on torque, when and how much, and its relation to the weight of the car. i don't necessarily like the idea of a k-series in an older chassis, but i really like the idea of -neg +pos -neg cam timing in relation to throttle position and rpm.

:)

Wait wait wait. one question for you. are you swapping the motor because the stock motor is toast or are you swapping it for power?

yep, ls-vtec it up. can make b18c5 power for about a grand (head, ecu, stuff...)
next thing to change out is the uber long ls tranny :)

Most Honda engines don't really put out that much torque.

what the hell are you talking about? to me, the most important aspect of small displacement is finding all the torque you can, and this is so important because it is entirely relative to weight. you of all people driving a 4door should be concerned with torque...

Then you should get a stroker kit. Overall, putting out all that money (roughly 10k said n done) for a K-series swap, yea you could find more torque from a B-series and even probably a D-series which aren't far behind the B's.

And I'm talking about in that quote how Honda engines don't put out much torque; I never said anything about torque not being important. When you're shopping for a Honda engine, the torque is nearly the same so it comes down to hp and cost.

yeah, i kind of came across as over reacting and i think we are both on the same page... it just feels like the torque curve and its relationship with horsepower is sometimes ignored when 'we' start advising people on swaps. i was too ignorant to realize (when mentioning the k20) that he is perfectly set up for the ls/vtec. :)

Fuck the stroker kit and going NA. Get either a b18b, GSR, get a decent turbo kit and call it a day. Tuned properly will make plenty of torque.
