Mugen Accord

West West Y'all
I just bought an 88 accord and i want to swap in either a b16 or b18 and swap my front end for a 3rd gen prelude front end. any suggestions?

Sell it and buy a 3rd-gen Prelude maybe??? What's wrong with the Accord's front end? It's very similar to the Prelude's already.

i got one, this seems like a easy answer for you, i mean you did tell someone in another thread not to go with a h22a, in there accord, but you dont know what to go with in yours.

why wouldn't you go with an h22a in the accord?? Its like the easiest possible swap when it comes to hondas. It makes it way cheaper than buying the axles, tranny, mounts, motor, all the accesories for a B-series swap. That is money you could be spending on the h22a you just dropped in.

he was talking about a 3gen accord, 90+ accord easy swap with a h22 86-89,,hard

ahhh. oops. they have the a20 something or other right? my bad. nevermind.

Yeah, they have the A20, some of them are carb'd also, which is a consideration when it comes to swapping in newer motors.

A20a1

Ya my Accord is carb'd. Very slow. Also I prefer the 88 Prelude front end. Better style. I also want to show that Accords, especially the older ones, have balls

could do this..... but wont be able to drop in a B16/18..... hood clearence issues.... thus the B20/21 that comes stock in the 88-91 prelude, the head is tilted back 18 degrees.....

only motor swap available for the 3rd gen lude at this time would be the H22/23

Meh, I guess so. In my opinion they look pretty much the same though. I'd just keep the Accord front end, maybe throw a 1st-gen Integra lip on it. That would look nice in my opinion.

Ok due to clearance issues with the Prelude hood Im thinking of doing a D16Y8 swap. Just need the mounts and VTEC harness. Plus I want to swap the auto to a 5-speed. I know Im going to need the mounts, brackets, linkage, clutch and what not for that swap. Any help is appreciated.

Very doubtful, and I doubt anyone makes a kit for it. You're the first person I've ever heard suggest this particular swap.

I got to thinking about it and I most likely will drop tha Prelude front end and do tha B16 swap. I dont want to sacrafice hp for looks plus I want DOHC not SOHC.

I think that's a good idea, and actually, you might wanna think about doing a B18A or B. That way you'll have a little bit more displacement and torque to work with, plus you can always add a VTEC head onto it.

quite frankly, you're on the wrong forum. if you want to see 3g accords w/ balls, 3geez - Powered by vBulletin is waiting for you. you seem deluded if you were serious about swapping a d-series engine into an accord, which is bigger and heavier than a civic, when people usually swap them out of civics because they're so small. and virtually any swap you do that involves fuel injection means converting your entire car to handle fuel injection. by time you buy all the parts from the jy, you can find a decent lx-i or even se-i depending on your locale and buy that to build.

hey snoopy read the post before you flame. please. the dude has the a20. that is like the biggest 4 cylinder turd honda ever crapped out. But wait with the Prelude front end couldn't he do the b20 that is in the prelude? didn't Uncle Buck say he couldn't or did I misread that and he said he can?

The OP said he wanted to do a Prelude front-end conversion on his Accord, and I said why not just buy a Prelude? Uncle Buck was saying that it's harder to swap a B-series (which is what the OP wants) into a Prelude then it is to swap it into an Accord.

The front end really doesn't matter much. It's a question of how easy it is to swap a B-series into the Accord versus the Prelude from those years.

ok ill re-sum it up for ya....

you can put the B20a5 (out of the 3rd gen preludes) into the 3rd gen accord....

BUT just cus the 3rd gen prelude comes with a B series DOESNT mean you can put in any other B series... your options are limited as these cars werent very popular to modify... the prelude was designed and going for the "Engine-less" design thus the slope in the hood... the heads on the B20a3, B20a5, B21a1; were tilted back 18 degrees to achieve this look.... also since we are on this subject of the heads on these blocks you CANT swap on a vtec head... the water/cooling jets just dont line up, there is ALOT of machining involved to achieve this and its just not worth the time or effort.... thus the new rage is the H-Series swaps for us... more power and torque... no modifications for shifting.... its a great setup
