Have a 94 hatch...used to have awd talon that killed babies...now im swapping one in my clean hatch =]
my question...should i use the weaker fwd tranny? or use awd tranny and permanently use viscous coupling eliminator?

awd tranny is built WAY stronger and if used for fwd application it would make sense for durability.

i have a guy who will fab up tranny mount and rear engine mount. driver side mount bolts right into stock d series mount. Car will be very front heavy, but its not meant for autox...purely fast street/strip car...

ps dont bash, im doin the swap. i have money, time and experience. mind is set this is my goal... give me your thoughts tho....

other possible issues:
dash, cluster, wiring for ignition

I say go for it. its probably a rare swap, and would be bad ass. as for the awd tranny or fwd tranny, I have always heard all dsm trannys, aren't that great for durability anyways so I don't know what you could do about that.

yea its not too common so info is hard to come by. i know alot about the 4g63 motor so im def not intimidated by swap. my initial goal is to get motor in car running, no gauges or anything...once its running good ill start wiring mess for gauge cluster.

i might stick with fwd tranny just to get project underway...axles are going to be custom made my Raxles.com. plan on using stock dsm harness and ecu, new walbro 255lph fuel pump, the rest stock...for now.

If any1 knows or has any photos of the custom mounts send em my way...just to get an idea. i have a fabricator who will make it but ideas are always better than starting from scratch.

University Place? Where's that? Im located in spokane, and id like to see this done.

what shops do you go to? i usually take my nissan to fairlady motors.

fairlady is great place, doug is cool... 9 times out of 10 i go to speedfactory, excellent work, great prices, and good guys... i go to speedline for lil things here and there. when i had my dsm i went to pina

so you know vu then?

im guessin from pina..i dont know him... i only knew andre with badass galant... havent been there in while. you live in 253 area??

vu works for doug. does all of his honda stuff. i lived in tacoma for the last 4 years until recently. lived in U.P. in '96 over on 63rd street. so i know the area, but not a lot of the car people.

ohh. lol i havent been to fairlady for 3 years, i went when i had my 300zx and my buddy tom had that blue fastback with rb25 that he sold to doug

So you're swapping a 4G63 into a Civic hatch and you're keeping it front wheel drive? If you're gonna go through the trouble of doing a custom swap like that, why not take it all the way?

If you want to keep it FWD, then why not just drop a turbo LS and call it a day? It would make a lot more sense...

Anyway, keep us updated.

A while back i saw a hatch that someone tried to swap a 4g63t into an eg. The engine was installed with the custom mounts but the guy gave up on finishing his project. It wasnt wired up or it didnt have the axles. But more power to you when you finish. Good Luck

firstly 4g63 will make tons more power for money...granted ls turbo is cheap, it has to be built to make numbers i want. mark my words i will get the 4g63 running for way cheaper than any honda swap of same hp numbers. i got old dsm connections which i plan on using. Axles are made by Raxles.com for 375 shipped...or i talked to some1 who has done it and said you can combine dsm and civic axles together and get them to work. id rather get custom legit axles... my ONLY doubt is wiring... ie fuel pump, ignition, starter, etc....

why don't you just completely gut the car. wiring and all and start from the ground up? drop in the motor with the custom axles and rewire it using the dsm specs? it seems like if you could do that it would be easier...in my eyes anyways. I personally wouldn't swap a dsm motor into a honda but I don't have experience with dsm's at all.

true but tahts ALOT of work... im just looking intially to get teh motor in and running... i can do wihtout gauges for minute... im trying to make it as least of project car as possible. i know the wiring will be a mess but hey, one can only try and learn right?

you will deffinatly have to add some wiring. you may as well fabricate the entire engine wiring harness to the ECU. there's only a few things the ecu will want to know from the chassis harness's. the main relay is what you'll need to read up on. that will control your fuel pump, as well as power the ecu when the ignition switch turns to on. man it sounds like a fun swap tho. do you have the 6-bolt or 7-bolt crank? i can probably help you with any wiring question. i've got full wiring diagrams for 92-95's. let me know if you want a copy, i'll pm you the link. i have it posted on my website...but i dont need the worlds bandwidth downloading it (90mb).

as all the others have said, please keep us updated!

yes exactly... actually i will need that diagram. im also going to need diagram for dsm... and i got a 6bolt...longblock. im wondering about the transmission tho. fwd are way weaker than awd. can't i use a viscous coupling eliminator...remove transfer case cap off output shaft and drive full time fwd??? then ill have lsd too.

i've seen a handful of these swap, im currently talkin to the guy who did the one on streetfire.net he said actual engine mounting is not hard at all...simply extend 2 of current mounts to fit 4g63 mounts.

currently my civic still has stock motor in it... its my DD im just collecting all parts ill need first. i want good shit, motor will get new t-belt water pump maybe oil pump. . . my buddies are just gettin rid of good awd drivetrains and engines cuz their yard is full of dsms.... so im bout to get up on that see what i can use...

on a side note i need a starter for my other ride so i can start rippin civic apart...damn $130 in wrong direction!
