hey, my buddy just bought a 94 civic ex with a ls swap in it, they said when he bougth it that the check engine light was on because it had a obd2 motor in it and it, and he was wondering what you needed to do to get the light to go off, thanks

Convert the motor to OBD1, or run a chipped ECU and tune out whatever's causing the error light.

Also, there's literally about 50 things that can cause a CEL. It would probably help if he figured out exactly what code or codes are being thrown.

Buy a conversion harness from Rywire and use an OBD1 ECU. It's probably throwing a code because it's looking for a second O2 sensor, and cars wired for OBD1 don't have one.

If you're putting an OBD2 motor into an OBD1 chassis, you really need to do the conversion. Whoever originally swapped the car is a fucktard.

Here, tell your friend to look at this (or maybe you might want to look at it for him, since apparently he can't figure out how to use the internet himself):

Rywire - Online Store

You can buy a jumper harness that will either convert the car to run OBD2, or you can get a harness that will allow an OBD2 motor to use an OBD1 ECU. If it was up to me I would just convert the motor to use OBD1, since the car's already set up for it and it's more tuner-friendly anyway.

and what harness would it take the ob2a - obd1 or what, thanks again

Do you know what year the motor is? If it's 96-99, then it's OBD2a. If it's 2000+, then it's OBD2b.

For the ECU, check out the list in the reference section. I can't remember which one it is offhand.

he is thinking of putting a b16 head on it, for that he would need a dif ecu wouldnt he, what one would i need for that, and you would use the same conversion harness right.

if he decides to make it an ls VTEC he needs to run the b16 head right, can he run a gsr head or no, and will the header intake manifold distributor and valve cover fit off the b18 on the b16 or what needs to be swapped, and also i read that it needs to be drilled and tapped for a oil line, thanks for the help

o is the p75 ecu the obd1 ecu, thanks again

There is obd1 and obd2 p75 ecu's, make sure you get the obd1.

As for the GSR head, yes you can use a gsr head, and I believe everything will bolt right up. I dont think you can use the LS intake mani on the GSR tho, but im not 100% sure.

it takes the same distributor and header and everything though just get a VTEC solonoid and a dif ecu and vtec harness and its a bolt up deal.

alright well my buddy decided not to mess with so now it belongs to be and i figured out everything i need to know, thanks for the help again.
