i have a 91 crx dx in the avitar and would like to swap to a zc motor but am worried about the wireing nightmare.and i know its been asked a thousand times but does anyone have links to wireing a zc.also the best links to online zc motors for sale.i have been looking at hmotorsonline.com so far. thanks

thank you.i am doing a sohc zc but the wireing should be the same right?
no, wiring for SOHC ZC (non-VTEC) is like wiring for the Si D16A6

what does everyone think is it worth the extra $ to get the dohc vs the sohc zc non v-tech?

I honestly don't know about that normally I would say go with the dohc but parts may be more readily available for the sohc. what motor you got now?

they are practically the same, maybe a 5hp differance,im just not sure how vtec hits on the single...but the single is exactly like a d-series,well the same goes with the dohc, except 2 cams, but both use d tranny, mounts, and everything

i have the 1.5 sohc dpfi in it now.need a direct bolt on for the tranny as it is in good shape.the motor in it runs great but since i put 17's on it man is it slow.the 1.5 i have is like 85hp and the sohc 1.6 is 120hp and the dohc zc is 129hp from what i have read.but it's $100 difference between the sohc and the dohc for 9hp.

don't go by "advertised" horsepower ratings - the stock DOHC ZC is much quicker than any stock SOHC D-series in the same car - DOHC bolts right in just like the SOHC - any aftermarket parts that are available for the SOHC engine are available for the DOHC engine - you just need to know where to look - the DOHC is definitely worth the extra $100 - you would need to spend more than $100 on a SOHC to get it as quick as a stock DOHC

how about the a/c unit also bolt right on?motor mounts ect.if so i think you may have talked me into the dohc

has anyone bought a engine from jdmtigerjapanese.com ?

I just did the ZC swap and I got the DOHC. I found lots of info on www.thezcr.com. you will need to use the bracket from your engine on the ZC to use the AC, everything else is the same. My HF tranny bolted right in and I even used the clutch that came with the ZC that look to be in better shape than mine. The only thing you will have to do is the wiring because you have a DX. The DOHC ZC is 137hp if not more. so I'll be happy to pay $100 for 17 ponies.

thanks for the info guys.at the tigerjapanese site the zc dohc motor says civic/crx years 92-95 well 91 was the last year the crx was made.i guess it would still fit?

the 92-95 DOHC ZC is basically the same as the 88-91 DOHC ZC, except it is OBD1 - has Cylinder sensor in the distributor instead of on the exhaust camshaft, has different intake manifold which accepts the late throttle bodies - has throttle body like a D16Z6 with MAP sensor on top - has cooling fan switch on the thermostat housing - uses alternator like 92-95 Civic - was made for 92-95, so it has a different mount on the driver's side end - it can be converted to use in the 88-91 cars

CRX was OBD0, the engine would be OBD1.
The new tranny would be hydro so you would have to keep your old tranny if thats the case.

So pretty much, either you convert the car to OBD1, or get the stuff to run the engine OBD0
