Yes, as the title states, I'm getting into some turbo now. My friend gave me his old 14b which has no shaft play. I've been researching FI more than ever lately, and I've got a real good grasp on it I think. There's one thing I'm missing tho and that's experiance.

I'm working with a JDM B16 making it 10.4:1

I want to know the approximent maximum effective compression stock internals should be put up to.

And I want to know what a safe effective compression would be for a reliable daily driver, again for stock internals.

My goal on this turbo setup is just any reliable power increase. I have future goals which entail rebuilding the motor, and I'm using this as a trial slash setting up the charge piping and related framework.

I'm trying to figure out how much PSI it will require to reach the safe zone so I can size up my charge pipe and decide if the charge pipe can be bought for the future turbo as well, or if it should be smaller so it can handle the lower CFM of the 14b.

Thanks to anyone with input!

I'm still researching too, but I know this much: lower compression is better for boost, something like 9.5:1 should do it. Of course if you're a damn good tuner or know one, then run the compression you want.

You must not have read what I wrote. Or havn't researched enough yet.

I'm running stock internals for this turbo setup. I'll have a future turbo setup when I rebuild the motor, and durring the rebuild is where that happens.

I'm gonna take a guess that 15:1 effective compression is still under maximum as per B's turbo article on Static Vs. Effective Compression.

But I still want to know the sake of knowledge, what has been proven or seen.

Alright so it really seems to me, that if I want to make this 14b spool up to peak VE and peak torque nice and early, i'll want to use smaller charge pipe. My assumption is the smaller piping will take less time to compress the air. So using smaller charge pipe seems like it's always the better option. Should I be worried about the size piping I use?

I'm also wondering if a blow off valve can be overkill. I'd like to get a Tial 50mm. I like the company, from what I've heard they make quality parts. Does the Tial 50mm fit well into a low boost setup AND a semi high boost setup? I'm trying to make as many parts from this system work on the future setup.

I'll be using the whole summer to learn/gather parts/save money/find deals. So please, super in depth knowledge helps me more! I'm taking my time with this and doing my best to make it right the first time.

What would a good set of cheap, quality cams be for an improvment over stock B16 cams using boost? Stock valve train too.

First time i've rebuilt a head myself, need to replace the LMAs and want a lil extra bonus. plans is, these will be temporary

Right now i'm thinkin it's going to be OEM. GSR? TypeR? ITR on the intake CTR on exhaust? lots of options, and not a clue.

 help?

hey YB , Honestly , even if it's well tuned , I wouldn't go over 7psi , even if what matters is tune and horse power , I wouldn't go over that 7 , that way you will not create a lot of compression on the cam , if your head gasket get screwed , that means that you are pushing too hard ! , and about cams !, you don't need to do nothing to the head if you are running stock pistons/rods well may be retainers , just go safe under 250whp ! with a great tune !

well you musta skimmed bad. because i'm not boosted currently. that's not why i'm going into my head. nor why i'm replacing my head gasket.

it's a JDM '95 motor. I never changed the head gasket when i bought the swap. it's got 20psi less compression in cylinder 1 on a compression check. i want to change the head gasket before I put the 14b on.

i'm not worried about what psi i can run. not at all. the 14b is just for a temporary increase in power on my stock internals. just to learn on. no power goal on this turbo and stock internals.

my Lost Motion Assemblies are sticking and need replaced. those just cushin the vtec rocker arm when vtec isnt engaged. since i have to pull the cams to replace the LMAs, i want to put a more agressive, cheap, quality set of cams in at the same time i replace my LMAs as a lil bonus.

answer my previous question about cams? anyone?

alright sweet that's what i was lookin for.

so the CTR intake and ITR exhaust are more NA then? that's the other combo i was thinkin of.

Yeah, they're longer duration and lower lift, compared to B16 cams, where the GSR cams are higher lift and shorter duration.

Ok, now I understand the correlation. I just havn't read up on those key points.

Thanks a lot Blanco, as always! Now i can hold out for a good deal and do other research over the summer! :)

:disgust1:sigh...

dude!!! c'mon. i'm subscribed to that thread too.

if i knew shit about pistons or oil squirters i'd help you out. but i dont. but now, i didnt post in ur thread asking questions about this thread....

can you help answer my second cam question?

hey man what's up ? , you told me keep us posted , I added the photos cause I guess you were the only one subscribed to that post ! , I am just saying take a look , not to fix my life. kool down !

lol sigh again. if you make a post on a thread, your subscribed. i'm not the only one that's subscribed to your thread. blanco, 93civicracer, RTSVTEC2004, etc.

keep us posted means, keep us posted [on your thread]

i'm not mad or hot about it. just fyi. that's not how the forum works.

i looked at your thread there before you posted in mine. again, sorry i'm of no help on that one.
