We run a 92 Accord on a 1/3 mile paved oval track. I believe it has the F22a engine in it. The class we run in states, no dovc, just singles Is there an engine swap for this year of accord that will provide a little more power? Or is there other parts that will work with this engine. I hear the H23 intarke is an upgrade. Also can someone suggest a cam that would work well as an oval track cam.

The 94-97 EX Accords had a VTEC version of the F22, which made a few more horses than the older version. And, if you get one from a 94-95 model, then it should be a straight swap, all you'd need to do is add the VTEC wiring. You could also just swap the head over to your current block and not have to pull the whole motor.

And yes, the H23 intake manifold is an upgrade over the stock piece. I'm not sure on the cams, I'd have to research.

iam kinda curious to know more about this oval track..... is there any engine specs that can and cannot be performed??? such as it must stay SOHC??? cus i mean if you really want to get into this id like to know how far you can go.....

i mean must the SOHC block must be stock?

cus id look into a set of H23 connecting rods, F23a1 or F23a4 vtec head off the 98+ accord (only difference between the two heads is 2hp)...

lastly, to bad you couldnt boost these cars..... SOHC heads flow like CRAZY!!

Put it this way, there are guys who spend upwards of $5000 on their engines. We are always open to suggestions!!!!

well the only reason i was really asking was......

is because say the motor block is a F22 (sohc) and you used a H22 head.... i mean technically the block is still sohc lol.... i know it sounds stupid... but there are always loop holes.... (stupid statement no need for true answer)

i would just build a really high compression NA engine in that case with some beefy connecting rods with a SOHC Vtec head.... a really good tune.... 114 octane race gas.... solid mounts.... and also look into a JDM H22 trans.... LSD and deep gears for getting you out of the hole.... you dont want longer gears if the track is that small...

Thanks again for the info guys, Ya Uncle Buck, no reason why you can't mix and match parts!!! How would you get the compression up, mill the head or us an after market piston?

jumping the compression isnt hard at all really..... go to F22 Parts and they can make you a set of pistons to get you 8:5:1 all the way up to 17:1

i dont have much experiance for milling the head..... so perhaps Brutal has some insight on that.... but i would think pistons would be your best and safest bet.... ive seen spendy heads get ruined cus lack of knowledge of the machine shop

Is the 94-95 Ex Accord the F22b engine?

Yes, that's correct. Well, actually, all four cylinder 94-97 Accords have an F22B. The DX, LX, and Special Edition have the F22B2, which is non-VTEC, and the EX has the F22B1, which does have VTEC.

The F22B1 is the one to look for.

Hey BrutalB83, will the h23 intake go with the F22ba engine? Also what makes the F22b1 engine better? Is it because it has more compresion or that it just produces more ponies!!!! Is there id #'s on the engine blocks and if so where are they??

I'm pretty sure the H23 intake manifold will bolt on to the F22B engines, but I'm not 100% on that, so maybe somebody else could chip in?

As for why it's better, it's pretty much the VTEC. The compression ratio, the bore and stroke, all of that stuff is the same as the older F-series motors. The addition of the single-cam VTEC gives it a few more horses and ft/lbs torque however.

Keep in mind that the the F22B1 is the only one that has VTEC. The F22B2, which came in the DX and LX, is pretty much exactly the same thing as the older F22A motors.

And yes, there are ID codes on the engine blocks. They're down near the bottom of the head, to the left of the exhaust manifold. Check out this article for more info: How Can I Determine Which Motor I Have? - HondaShowOff.com Forums

Hey BrutalB83, when you say just add the wiring for the F22b1, do you mean I need the wiring harness as well and I'll have to rewire it to fit the 1992-1993 accord???

No, you should be able to re-use the car's harness, since you're going from one OBD1 F22 to another. The wiring that you'll have to add would be simply be adding a few wires for the VTEC.
