Ok I have a 1990 CRX HF that I bought for my girl. We took it out the other day and she didn't like how slow it was when pulling out into traffic. I was doing some reading and found a few ideas. Here is what I was thinking of doing to give it a little more pep in it's step.

- Si IM
- Si Trans
- Dx head
- Dx header
- Timing belt for Dx head
- ECU? not sure

I am not sure if I need to change the ECU or not. Anyone know? Well I didn't want to do a complete engine swap because I all ready have one in progress. I don't want both cars off the road at the same time. I thought this would be a good build and that I could do it in a weekend.

I'm not really looking for any hand outs just some opinions and maybe an answer here or there. So what's everyones opinion?

Thanks for the link. I got the idea from a similar thread but it didn't have as much useful info as this one.

not to get off topic but are u able to check your rep on this site to see who has left rep?

click on 'user cp' on the top left of the forum. it'll show you who's left rep and why.

I drove a stock HF for like 6 months before I did my b16 swap and I never had any issues with on ramps, you sure there's not something else wrong with it? They're peppy cars even with only 62hp.

no i am sure there is nothing else wrong with it. this hf is slow. we dont have problems with the on ramps of the interstate. its pulling out of a gas station or taking off on a hill at a red light.

A swap would probably be easier and more reliable], but if you want to make it a project, go for it, I hear that HF hybrids can be really quick.

do the mini me. get a z6 head and an obd-1 conversion harness with a p28 and chip the ecu. If she thinks that is slow, then your girl is a major lead foot. And on the off chance she is you could still do an intake and the exhaust and a header.

yeah i would do i swap but i have all my money and time wraped up in my swap. so i think i am just going to go with the hf hybrid. sounds like a good weekend project.

exactly swapping a head could potentially take you one day to finish, and if so then you wouldn't miss the car at all. versus a swap which could take weeks

i am choosing to go the hf hybrid way cuz the only thing i have to buy for this project is the si trans. i am thinking of going with a D16a6 or a D16z6 down the road when my si is complete.

Throw an 89' integra ecu in it. It'll give it a little more power and you can pick them up cheap!!1

An ECU from another car will NOT do anything for you, it will make things worse. ECUs are made for the cars they come in for a reason.

I know you should be able to do things in a day or two with a swap but there are a lot more variables that can go wrong when swapping a motor in.

My swap took me over 2 weeks...because I was only able to work on it 2 hours a day but I'm confident I could do it in a full day now as long as I could work uninterrupted.

I think my Civic's too slow and it's running roughly 135-140 hp that's my estimate for a JDM D15B Vtec with short-ram intake, ebay header, and an exhaust setup considering the stock engine puts out around 128-130. But hey, that's what nitrous is for and turbo's coming soon after that.

I still say head swap. Much less that can go wrong. But that is just my opinion. Or if you are gonna go with a swap make sure it is from a site like hmotorsonline that way you know you are getting a good motor, as well as something that came from japan meaning it has a little bit more power.
