Alright I'm working on a paper, completely for argumentative purposes, for English class. Needs to be based on factual information though.

Well, I'm trying to convince legislature, or whoever is in charge of the driver license requirements, to make the process of getting a license and more restrictive and expensive along with strict traffic laws. So far I have three reasons:

-safer highways and roads due to better drivers allowed on the road; something like Skip Barber performance-driving school that would increase a driver's skills especially during emergency situations, requirements for passing much more strict, and different classes of licenses needed for different vehicles instead of just C, B, and A or different level of license to travel a max speed in certain lane.....how do they do it on the autobahn?

-faster highway speeds: only skilled drivers would be driving. restricted lanes for certain cars or license(keep slow cars in the slow lane, etc.), Cars are also better designed; they can go faster much safer than older cars. ...and I need another "evidence" of that.

-less emission pollution and reliance on oil. due to more people forced to find alternate modes of transportation: people will most likely resort to mopeds, and scooters; both gas and electric power. Also promotes healthier lifestyle by forcing people to walk or bike. More people will resort to public transportation; electric monorails are the future.

Well, that's all I got so far. It's a rough outline and not correct or anything by any means, just some stuff I came up with. I just need to find sources backing it up or change it somehow(or even change the topic).

What do you guys think?

yea...as nice as it would be I don't see anything like this happening anytime soon. Government loves their money way too much and they'll always try to use drivers ed as an excuse of better learning.

what would be the rquirements for obtainig a DL. would you suggest making that harder too?
Heres my side:
I had a decent driving record. well i had 3 points on my liscense from minor speeding infractions when i was 18-20 ish.

Then 9-11 hit and they just took my DL away. Do i look i'm wearing a turban on my head? NO! I understand where they are coming from but it looks like they just wanted to target ALL imigrants. It was shortly after that, that they made a big deal about immigration and border patrol so that pretty much kept the Dl thing on lock. Politics brought that shit up and kept it up.

Yes i'm illigal but i showed you documentation of my school that i went to at the time,(middle school for learners liscence) my mexican birth certificate and my letter from high school drivers ed. I showed i can drive.

leave me the fuck alone and stop worryig about my personal life. If i wreck you can find me. Dont make it impossible and force me to drive illigally and fuck someone over if i get in a wreck cuz i have no insurance.

add that to paper.

ohh and keep those damn old farts off the road!!!!!!!
suggest they do MANDATORY drive tests every 2 years once they turn 65 or something

I like the idead of different classes in different lanes.

Make the people that cant drive stay in the slow lane. I hate when im going 65 - 70 in the fast lane and someone is infront of me doing speed limit. If you wanna go 60 there are 3 other lanes for ya.

also 90% of my almost accidents involed an old fart not driving right.

OK so you pissed at others and your the one breaking the law:confused:

Thats why we have the passing lane. If you going too slow you get passed on the left. If you do anything under 40 you get a ticket. If you do anything above the posted speed you get a ticket. no need to improve a working plan. Stop tring to make excuses to ge faster. its already proven that if we raise the limit there will be more accidents.

hmmm ... it might be breaking the law. But if its for passing you still shouldnt be cruising in it going 60 ...

it goes both ways.

thats is true. it is the pasing lane. Those dumbasses are called left lane cruisers. You pretty much have to ride the brights untill they get out og the way.

I agree with taco, fucking old people....I've almost been in 3 accidents within the week and they where all old fogeys. Hell I almost got ran over while walking across the street last week because some old idiot cruised through the damn stop sign doing 60 in a 30. Mandatory restriction at the age of 65!!!! I don't want to die dammit.

I don't really care about the legal requirements for obtaining an license, as it doesn't really effect a person's driving abilities. If you can drive, you can drive...

Also the suggestion of making the process much more difficult would filter out the old people who can't drive and force them to ride a bus or train.

faster does not mean more accidents.
like blanco said, look at the autobahn, that far lane is restricted to high speeds only, BUT only when its not in city limits.
within city limits it has a speed restriction bc of city traffic, but once you get out of the city it goes back to no limit.
accidents happen on the autobahn when westerners (US) come over there and get in that fast lane doing 120, thinking they are going fast, then a german hauls up at 160 and smacks.
people who drive the autobahn, drive it. they haul that shit at max.
we may think 120 is fast, but they would laugh at you.

also look at australias laws for getting a license, they have a graduated class system, certain ages cant have certain cars, and can only go so fast. 16yr olds cant have a honda with vtec.
its considered performance, and you cant have it until you graduate to another level.

that equals up to better drivers, that cancels out parents giving Jr a 300hp awd beast and letting him kill himself and all his friends.

Taco, im not aiming this at you, i am speaking about my particulay area, and i know that not all do this but...
alot of accidents would be avoided here if illegals couldnt drive, we have a lot, and they never have a license or insurance. not too long ago, a mexican ran a red light, caused a nice 4car wreck, killed a guy and his 4yr old son.
the mexican was heavily intoxicated, illegal, no insurance, no license.
he was arrested, held for about a month, then deported.
no punishment.
i can garauntee he is already back.

the death penalty should have been given.

but. on subject.
your last point has nothing to do with making a license harder to get.
thats a whole different subject on its own.

look at germany, look at austrailia, study how they do their licenses.
use them as examples, get stats. PM awptcks (i think thats his sn on here) he lives in germany, he may be able to get you some statistics if you ask nicely.

im on another forum that has alot of international people, i could ask them if you would k=like.

also in germany, you cant get a license until your 18, and its expensive as hell too.

Thanks, demon! That's some good info, now I just need to figure out how to read many of these German pages. lol

Blanco's idea, backed up by invisibledemon, is the correct approach. Look at what Germany , Australia, New Zealand and even France have graduating programs available to younger drivers. In France, for instance, one can get a licence at age 14 that allows them to drive a car under a specific hp / weight range. They get all the neat kei cars.

I have had a licence since age 15 (Well, last week of 14) living in Pennsylvania. It was called a farmer's permit, which was limited to daylight hours. It's a permit given to kids who live on farms to get to school or to the store or what have you. Under this permit I couldn't take passengers, and if I so much as got a parking ticket I would lose it until I was 16. I moved out of PA at age 15, back to CT and lost my permit until 16.

So there are programs available in the US too for younger drivers.

Also, while you're looking it up check out motorcycle licencing in these areas as well. a lot of countries have progressive motorcycle permitting.

Mandatory testing to begin receiving social security, then once every two years to continue receiving it. It's a proven fact that all abilities decline with age, why wouldn't driving ability?

And a system that copied the German way of doing things would be perfect. The only problem is that cars, highways, and roads in general in Germany are built much better and maintained with the same pride. They don't rub tar over a crack in a highway, they dig up the highway for X amount of feet and completely re-paved it. And most German cars are built to withstand a crash when doing 150+ mph because that is not uncommon.

what does polution have to do with making a license test harder? argument #3 is completely irrelevant.

They increased the limit here in tally for a little while. It showed to cause more accidents than before in just one year. WHY. because if your doing 55 your going to go 60 or 65. If the limit is 70 people normally do 80......in know i do when i'm alone on the road. So when they up'ed the limit , guess what what happened.

It happened years ago and i heard about it on the radio. Obviously they returned the limit back to normal.

as for the driving criminal.......if he showed he could drive enough to past the test then he could drive. But what happened to him could have happened to anyone who was retarded enough to drive drunk. That guy should have been in jail within minutes of the accident. He should have been fried right after that. if Mexico wanted him i would have paid some inmates to beat him to death.

I just think that by showing proof of who you are whether it be a forign DL it should be enough to help you obtain a DL. I cant even get a fucking ID card! so if i die and my body is found. Thanks to the dmv i have no proof of identity........bullshit

With harder tests, not as much people will be driving, thus less emissions/cars :)

I just needed three reasons, and just happen to come up with that.

it's an effect, not a cause.

you're trying to prove 'make licenses harder'. not the other way around.

why does it have to be more expensive? cant it just be a greater test of skill? for 99.9% of us, our car is the avenue to our income
