How hard could Ls/Vtec be, Really?

Jimmy John's Driver
I don't mean to annoy everyone with another ls/vtec question, but I'm about to the point I need to make a decision.. What to do with my LS motor.. It's a 96 Integra LS with nothing but an Injen CAI. I'm just trying to get it to somewhere under 275 horses. I know what kind of suspension setup I would need I suppose, but I'm stuck deciding if the stock engine is a good cantidate for what I want. No top speed drag, just something quick that I can do circuits in but could also take to the strip (anything under 13's would be crazy to hope for with an LS I would think right)?

My budget is fairly small (like a few hundred a month :)) and I have little mechanical skill, but plan to train to make a career of it, so I'm determined? But my extent of auto work is brake rotor and caliper replacement, front suspension replacement, (both on an Si hatch) and this here injen CAI..

Just lookin' for input..

do you have a place, tools, and time to do an LS/VTEC conversion? 'jimmy johns driver', is this car the delivery car? cant see downtime for that probably?

quick nice cheap suspension on your budget, some nice springs, Tein S-techs are appropriatly priced at around 130. a camber kit to compinsate, maybe some low profile tires but keep the same OE spec tire diameter. low profiles will let you corner harder. oem strut tower bars are around 50 bucks from honda. that's a good one. some struts maybe. larger intake maifold (victor x?). ...a few sugestions.

Yeah TEIN was actually the suspension manufacturer I was going to go with, and by under 275 i meant upwards of 235-250

Well I knew I was going to either get alot of ppl with different ways to go for budget hp, or get flamed lol. I really wasn't thinking i was gonna be able to do ls/vtec, it was just something I was looking at, all I ever find when I search for build Ideas is a build itself, just looking for a direction to go.

At the moment I'm thinking building it NA might be harder because of how much internal work needed.

And this isnt my only car :p

I'm just swapping for a GSR for 2600, that way i can have an engine with 50k on it as opposed to modding an LS block with 200K+ miles on it. And if i ever do somehow blow the gsr wayyy later on down the road, I'll have the ls as a back up. Now for research on GSR's into LS's (which seems to be a very un talked abot topic..)

You seem very confused... do you have a lot of money laying around?... If so, give me some and I will build your LS for you.

I just, above all things, didn't want to start a project and change my mind later on, but this way I'll have a newer motor so I won't have to worry about reliability, and it'll be rev happy like my old Si was (d16z6), this LS is so boggy :p, and I know where I can get one shipped for 2600

My ls short block is for sale. It is built for NA, high compression. PM if you wanna "step up your game", so to speak. ;x

My original plan for a build was a boosted 97 integra with a B18C5 in it. Since then I have wanted an EG with an H22, a Del Sol with an LS, and currently a boosted LSV in a CRX. Good thing I never have the money to literally throw away. Your mind is going to change, read around and decide what you want before you spend a dime.

N/A is gonna cost alot of money.. once my head is done ill have close to 6500 with parts and machine work into my n/a ls/vtec... if i had that much into a turbo motor it would be insane which i should of done... but oh well kinda late now... i wouldnt do ls/vtec unless u kinda have a deep pocket.. or almost no bills like me.. but go with the gsr for now...

i did a b18c(gsr) in my DA...its all plug and play...just need 2 pins for the vtec siliniod and the presure switch.(into the ecu harness)..very simple...

Check the dates on stuff before you post man. This thread is from February...

Wow, since this I've wanted that same boosted LSV in an EG. An EF with a worked LS and now keep the Teg with the same LS.
