Hey i bought a 99' civic EX off a dealer and he advertised it as being a v-tec like it should be but come to see its not for some obveous reasons it says d15y7 and not y8 on the block and theres no cylinoid but i herd there was a possibility of a internal cylinoid but thats completely wrong. but i was just wondering if there was something i could do to either have them get the d15y8 engine and put in or something else because of the false advertisement

the hx came with the y5 its also vtec, but made for a gas saving vtec motor. the ex came with a d16y8 normal vtec motor . post a pic of your motor it should have a solenoid

just check the vin on the block and match it to the car. thats the easiest way to see if it has the original motor.

i did and i took it to honda and they told me that it wasnt the right motor for my car. but what i was wonderin was what i can do to the dealer that sold me the car sayin it was a vtec and the origional motor but it aint so what can i do to get the motor or somethin else in a comprimise

i'd call the BBB and report that shit.. its definitely not the stock motor.. or they stuck EX badges on an LX or something.. whats the first 8 on the VIN # ... ??

BBB can't do anything about it. you will have to report them and file a police report of some sort. there is a federal "lemon law" that you will need to look into.

i would go in there and tell them they should either compensate you, return the car, or let you trade it in.

this is exactly why you run vin's before you buy a car. It is worth the $30 membership to get a carfax. it's a hard lesson learned.

yep.. EJ8 is an EX .. you got ripped off dude.. i'd go back and discuss it with them.. if they dont do something about it then get the authorities involved

start off nice. like i said before. tell them what you know, and how it should work. most bigger dealerships wont scam like that. they only deal with clean cars. my guess is you went to "joe's used cars". but i could be wrong. if it's a certified honda dealership, there should be no problem.

if it were a certified honda dealership, they wouldnt have sold that car advertised as vtec when its not

well, we don't know the whole convo, it could have been a trade in and not really discussed. but true, it couldn't be "certified" without a full inspection. odds are you are screwed unless the dealership works with you or you can prove they lied and were negligent.

maybe they put V-tech in the ad, check the glove box for a phone.

seriously, go back to the dealer first. Be nice and give them a chance to fix the problem. If they don't contact your states DMV and Attorney Generals office. The BBB can help, but not much they have no legal power.

the whole convo. was the add said EX vtec 149,000 origional miles and it said vtec on the side and thts a dead give away tht they're sellin a vtec also b/c they took a close up of the sticker and another thing is the emblum on the back of my car tht shows EX and i traded my car for it to get the price knocked down some and it was kind of a small used car dealer not a honda dealership. and im thryin to get autotrader to bring up the add b/c its not there any more b/c i bought the car dec. but if i get tht then ill have proof from tht and from the honda dealer certified paper sayin this is the wrong engine and they miss represented the car as being a vtec and it's actually non-vtec motor out of the DX civic

first off, you should research how to buy a car from a dealer. anybody with experience will tell you to sell your car first or buy the car and then sell the old one. you NEVER trade in your old car. no matter what. if you can't get the car without the trade in, you can't afford it. you probably paid more than retail or more than you would have from a private seller on craigslist for example.

that being said, i know how it feels to get a raw deal. listen to people with experience here. you aren't going to get them on any type of misrepresentation, so stop trying. the only recourse you have is to get them on selling a car with a swapped engine and not putting that into the paperwork.

i told you before. it's an expensive lesson, and odds are you wont get anything out of this. next time you have the idea to buy a used car from a dealership DEMAND a carfax report. they have the service because they do it before they take a trade in. if they will not GIVE it to you for FREE, walk the fuck out. they are trying to fuck with you.

heres what you do. go in, tell them that is not the original engine that came in the car. tell them that you would like a trade in for a different car or a certified engine replacement. they will not give you a new engine. they will not pay for an engine swap. they will not give you cash. best case scenario you will get back to your original car or a trade in for something else on the lot worth the same amount.

they ain't called 'stealerships' for nothin ;).

Damn I didn't know EJ8 meant it was a vtec. Or even that 93' sedans came in EX trim. My vins say EJ8 and I bought the car with a d15b7 and no badges except a phony type R emblem on the hood that I pried off a couple weeks ago. Wasn't til I got to this site and started learnin more and more that I figured out my car was the frickin town-WHORE been swapped like at least twice before I bought it. I'm thinking they wrecked the hell out of it grabbed a b7 from a junkyard swapped it and sold it. No complaints now that I've wired in the vtec for my d15b :D:D:D hella fun.
