so how do u get the most power out of a 1989 Honda Prelude 2.0 SI with a B20A5 and Manuel 5 speed? FOR CHEAP? will ECU's help?
 
Short of doing an engine swap or custom-fabbing a turbo kit, your best, cheapest, and easiest way is gonna be nitrous. Swapping the ECU won't give you any power, and there isn't a lot of aftermarket support for the old B20A's.
 
will a 2.2 SI or 2.1 SI head fit on a 2.0 SI or not??? will lose or gain power??

you can put the B21a1 head onto the B20a5 block but thats just bluntly retarded UNLESS you plan on boosting it..... your really limited to what you can do to the B20a5.... your best bet is to either order a JDM B20a from Tiger Japanese Auto Parts LTD - Home and slap on a turbo...... orrrr you can just do a H22 swap...

before you ask.... no you can not put a B16/18 onto that block.... and no you can not put anyother B series into the third gen prelude..... the 3rd gen lude was designed for a engine-less look and they tilted the head back on the block 18 degrees to clear the hood..... there is no aftermarket mounts out there for us to use either...... you can not use any other B-series headers either.....

There is no such thing as cheap power. Why don't people understand this? If you want to go fast then you have to lay down some bucks. If performance was cheap, then everyone's car would be fast.

And what do you think adding a different ECU is going to do for you? A particular ECU is designed to run a particular motor. You can't just hook up a Civic Type R ECU to your Prelude motor and expect it to run properly, much less perform better.

Your best bets for making more power are to boost or swap to an H22, neither of which are cheap...

You can only pull power from the B20A5 with boost period. If you rebuild the motor, and port and polish and upgrade the internals and do head work and port and polish the Intake manifold, and get some lightend flywheel and upgrade the clutch, and bore the cylinders out a little more and deck the head to bump compression... Tune the crap out of it after converting to OBD1 and chipping a P28 and tuning it.

All that work will only net you 150whp. You will need to do more research to pull anymore real power out of that motor.
And it will cost you at least $3500-$6000 to maybe break 200whp.

For roughly $1500-$2500 you can boost the B20A5 and get 180-220 from the start, with more tuning and some other ajdustments you can start climbing to 250-300whp.

Upgrade all internals and tune somemore, you can reach 400+whp on the B20a5 block without needing to resleev it.

And then if you are wanting to go even more. then for $2500-$6000 you can do the H22 swap and have 160whp(200 at the crank) without even tuning and bolton upgrades. After some tuning and bolt upgrades you can start pulling 200whp all motor.

The choices are becoming more abount as I keep making aftermarket support for these outstanding cars.

What's the difference beside exhaust and intake manifolds and, why if the b20a is almost the same as b20a5 dose it produce more power? Is it the head??? And if I can use a b20a5 head gasket on a b20a block then I should be able to use the b20a5 block rebuilt with better b20a head? Cuz I don't thing I can get parts to rebuild b20a unless they te same as b20a5 lol

Can I put a b20a head on a rebuilt b20a5 block! Yes, but get make sure you get valve to piston clearance checked if you deck the head and block.

Again, higher compression pistons.

All this information is preludepower.com, like what was stated above.


To get the most out of a B20a/a5, overbore to B21a1 bore size.
Then purchase B21a1 pistons and rings.
Use the B21a1 intake manifold to convert to OBD1.
Re-assemble and enjoy, I would recommend some cams, tunning, a better header and 2.25" mandrel bent catback to get the most out of that motor.

Oh and purchase a OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness since you sound like you are the OBD0 model. You can get it form this guy: http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355816


This should net you about 140whp(150hp)
