So I've noticed, I dont see ppl talkin about aftermarket main caps or rocker arms. Are the factory main caps comparable in strength to the factory crank? Meaning unless your makin unreal power you dont need to replace em? As for rockers, same thing. The only set I can find is the Ferrea set, but their description says they "cancel" vtec. Does anyone make a set of billet rockers that allow vtec? Im just lookin to lighten up the valve train a bit for some more high rpm stability. Thanks in advance for any info.
 
There is absolutely no reason you would need to run aftermarket main caps or rocker arms. Period.
 
Ok, could you give me some reasoning on that? Im tryin to learn here, so thats why I asked. With aftermarket rockers another thing I was hopin to accomplish was runnin a roller rocker instead of a padded one to reduce friction. Maybe theres a reason I shouldnt do that?
 
There is a reason that is quite simple...you can't. :) OEM honda crankshafts can withstand power of 600+ whp.

You cant replace em? Is that because no one offers a replacement? I assume thats what you mean, so that puts that question to rest for me lol.

I knew about the strength of factory cranks, I believe it was you who told me about a 500+ hp GSR with a stock crank that you had, in my first post here. That piece of info made my day, I was not lookin forward to forkin over a large sum of money for an aftermarket crank :D. Thanks for the info.
 
Actually, you can buy aftermarket cranks for honda motors. you just don't need them till (i've heard) ~800hp. Eagle makes them, for one.

But LS, you didnt answer anything pertaining to the rockers. i'm dont know and am wondering myself.

I would say from my reading it's not necessary to replace the stock rockers. i've never read of anyone actually replacing them. they should be good up to any amount of horsepower, because that is irrelavant. i dont know anything further tho, like in regard to revs.
 
YBLEGAL, I was actually reffering to the roller rockers, as far as not being able to convert a non roller rocker setup to a roller rocker setup. But I do believe Honda made a sohc with roller rockers, but it was a non vtec.
 
Ok, thanks for all the info. I plan on makin a fair amount of power, but this is engine is far from a race engine so i wont be buying any rockers that lock out vtec. As far as main caps go, no one makes a billet set? Or is it that they are rediculously over priced? Thanks again.
