Alright I've noticed ever since I got my car that there is rust a little on the rear quarter panel and on the rocker panels, but today I noticed one of my rear bumper supports welds broke and I was wondering if anyone knows a lot about welding. Also what type of welder I should use and gauge of wire to fix it??? I know how to weld it's just I never paid attention to the type of welder or gauge of wire as compared to the thickness of the metal.

what kind of car? I have a 91 and its easier to just buy a new bumper reinforcement which is easy to install and cheaper yet safer..

It's a 1990 hatch but there is nothing wrong with the reinforcement its the little metal tab that holds it on I'm not sure if this is part of the reinforcement, but I'm going to be taking the bumper off to see exactly what is bad or broken, other than that if any one has any insight as to how its all connected I would greatly appreciate it.

Ya i am pretty sure it will be the same. The tab slides into the frame and bolts on. Easy change and I picked up a new reinforcement for $80. Better than any weld.

Yeah thats nice to know because I'm planning on taking the bumper cover off in a week or 2, so I can find out what the extent of the rust is and if thats it only the tab then I'll definitely get the refinforcement
