Hey guys, i just joined and i have a few questions.

I have a DSM 14b turbo that i plan to fit to my 92 integra RS. The installation seems pretty straightforward but there are still a few concerns i have. If theres anyone out there with previous experience fitting DSM turbos to Hondas I would really appreciate any information, as i plan on beginning this project in the next few weeks. I do not plan to do internal engine work as funds are limited. I have a few small questions but fuel metering is my main concern. The wastegate on my 14b is set to open at 11psi. I'm worried my stock b18 wont handle this boost safely. Some say it will as long as its run rich, others say it wont handle it at all. Id like to find out in ways other than blowing my engine!

This is the list of parts i have for fuel management:

MSD inline high-flow fuel pump
APEXi SAFC NEO
B&M pressure regulator with gauge
AEM UEGO wideband o2 w gauge

Are these parts sufficient for maintaining a safe, reliable turbo setup? Is the B&M pressure regulator suitable for boosted engines, or will i need a rising rate FMU as well as the SAFC?

Also, I have to make my up an oil return line to my oil pan. Im curious to know what materials are suitable for an oil return line. I was hoping id get away with simple rubber tubing, but im skeptical that it can handle the extreme heat. Any ideas?
 
11psi on a 14b isn't a big deal... you'll handle it fine, provided its set up properly...

MSD inline high-flow fuel pump

throw those out
AEM UEGO wideband o2 w gauge
keep that

get an intank pump (like the walbro)
450cc injectors (you can use dsm ones - search for the write-up )
a tuning system such as turboedit, crome, hondata, etc.

the afc hack is antiquated, and you really shouldn't use it if you like drivability. you'll buck a lot. a LOT.

fmu's = fucks motors up. they were designed for carbs, not efi.

no way. you need stainless fittings and lines.

What do you mean by buck? backfire?

If so, what is it about an SAFC that causes frequent backfiring? If the AFR is set correctly with an SAFC, how is it any different than setting the correct AFR through a standalone unit?

I realize a hondata ecu would be most effective but im on a limited budget, and i dont know anyone with a used ecu, so i dont see any options other than an safc.

I was considering injectors but I've been told 450cc's are a little overkill for my car. I was told they will spit too much fuel at idle. I dont know what the cc, or impedance rating of my stock injectors are. Are the DSM injectors of the same impedance, and have the same size O'ring to fit into my intake? Again, all I plan on running is 11psi. Unless I provide sufficient fuel, would i be able to safely run more boost on the stock internals?
 
If anything, the 450s might be undersized for your application. You want the smallest size injectors that will support your peak power figures, and 450s will work well with proper tuning.

The SAFC will only adjust fuel across a few points in the fuel curve, and only at 2-3 load levels. A fully programmable ECU will allow you to adjust fuel and timing levels for every single point on the ECU's fuel map- not just 10 or 12.

If you don't have large enough injectors and you try to run more boost, you'll lean out and blow up your engine.
 
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the AEM UEGO wideband o2 work in conjunction with the AEM EMS?
 
I have a similar setup , just that I have a Vtec head ! , let me tell you , be cause I had the bad experience! , throw away that SAFC !!!!:mad: ... get crome , as Blanco said to me once , it's cheaper to spend on CROME that on all rebuilding of the engine , and it happened to me , that fu...ing safc sucksss! and that's why I had to rebuild it , you need something reliable , and where you can change ignition timing, and make the map sensor read boost !, you will be jumping off your chair after you finish . just don't push over 200whp ! , even if it can hold more than that ! just to be in a very secure spot.

Im agree with B , get walbro , keep the wideband and get bigger injectors 450dsm works good, Im using one of those and works great, and the fuel regulator, looks good under the hood lol, remember , tunning is the key , SAFC and any piggyback is a poor and lack of needs device.
