I have a 1999 civic ex with a turbo b16 with a 5speed swap that i just got rebuilt. Since i got it rebuilt iv had a couple small problems cause the place i got it rebuilt obviously did a shitty job(it was in another state thats why i cant take it back). But now i have a new problem. Iv only drivin the car about 10 miles since it was rebuilt. Today i was driving to another county when the car just shut off and wouldnt start back up so i had to wait 2 hours on the side of the road (next to my turbo civic looking like a dumbass) for a tow truck. Any ways i need ideas
something is wrong but im not sure yet
here is some of the obvious problems that i had before this happend

The car had been sitting for about 2 years (before i got the money to fix it) with old gas mixed with new gas and some gas treatment to get the water out. causing a knocking sound

I checked the spark plugs and there was oil ontop of 2 of the plugs above the 3rd and 4th cylinder area cleaned and tried to start but no luck

The battery is brand new and connections are tight and clean so that cant be the problem plus i had the alternator checked from a prior fuck up instalation that i fixed from the prior machanic and it tested and works fine

I had the pistons replaced and are brand new

tomarrow im going to check a few things to see what i can find out

if the timing or valves where not adjusted correctly could this cause the car to turn off while i was driving it?
i know if the valve lash isnt correct it shouldnt start but it seemed to be fine besides the trashy knocking sound that it was making i just figured it was the old gas though
there was also a ticking noise as well

anyways i need ideas asap im moving at the end of the month i dont want to have to sell my baby please help
what should i check

the car also has a integra gsr computer i took it up to advanced because an engine light had come on and stayed on sunday night but the meter wouldnt read from the plug in to the ecu im guesing because of the integra gsr computer

i also just replased the deltagate wastegate that was sticking with a tial wastegate but i dont think that would have anything to do with it

Main relay? None of the things mentioned would make the car just ":shut off". A bad ground could make the car shut off. Shoddy ECU connections could make the car shut off. DOes this car have a hacked harness or is it solid? And, from what I've read, a bad main relay could definitely, definitely cause this.

yeah no one was posting on this one so i put it in a different catagory

do you have spark? fuel? do you have any power at all? when you turn the key, does ANYTHING come on? lights, warning lights, signals, anything?

need more info..

nate if you want to help me out check the other thread above thanks
i do have all power and gas havent checked spark yet they are new spark plugs though and fairly new wires so i think it should be fine
when you turn the key to second ignition you here the fuel pump turn on then when you try to crank the car you here the starter trying to crank it but the engine doesnt turn over

i had a engine light before when the engine shut off on the road, but now when i put it in second igniton and crank it it has no engine light

problem solving

pull the #1 spark plug, with plug in wire, groing the plug holding it against the exhaust manifold ( lay it up there) turn the engine over, see if you have spark.

If you have power, fuel, spark, the car turns over but doesn't crank you may have a deffective relay. You cold then do an ohms test on the relays to determine where your problem occurs. The relays to start with are of course in the fuse panel under the hood next to the battery.

check 'em out

there is also a jumper wire above the ecu. when using a small piece of wire to connect these two termianls on the jumper connector, you can then turn the ignition switch to the on position to acquire CEL codes to determine what code your getting. Research is key, you can search these forums for information to do this.

CEL codes, civic jumper harness etc...

sounds like a coil to me
your not going to get a code for it they just go and it can be a bitch if you dont know what to look for
open up your distributer and pull out the coil you can use anyone from and civic or integra as long as it's newer then 94

if you dont know what i'm talking about ??
pull off the dizzy cap,
take the rotor off,
pull off the plastic cover,
now you'll see a black unit with a spring thing coming up out of one side -thats the coil
inscrew the two wire's (be sure to push down hard when unscrewing them there tight and will strip easy),
then look to the side and you'll see two phillips screws take them out and the coil is out

it takes five minutes at the most

ya custome painter i already figured it was the coil/ignition module a few days ago and just ordered a whole new distributor a couple days ago but it wont get here intell monday so ill post if that fixes it
the teeth on the cap where a little worn and the rotor was a little worn so i just got a new one plus the phillips head on the rotor was wanting to strip no matter the phillips head size so just got a new one

Dude, you sound a little rude on this. Not bashin but these guys are tryin to help and you gotta be as nice as possible. Anyways, to test spark all you have to do is use the dizzy and wires you were using by pulling off a wire and seeing if it gets spark off the dizzy. I have shocked myself a few times(including off a subie:p) but it will work. Just don't put your hand on the dizzy while your doing it.
