i have a 90 civic si (d16a6) and i found a d16y8 complete motor with a spun bearing for cheap. problems i want to put the head off the y8 on to my a6 block. i dont know the history of my car and the odometer says 313xxx km its a lot. it doesn't burn a drop of oil but will the higher compression be ok on the old block if it hasent been rebuilt?and could i expect about 135 horses?

with that high of miles,,i would give it a rebuild...just do new, gaskets, seals, and bolts/nuts/washers....and i dont think you will get that much hp from a minime...
how "cheap" is this y8 motor??cuz i have a z6 complete head for sale..mint

i havent bought the motot yet but about 275-300 dollar range (i live in canada) tha hp is fine if its not that high i just wana put a vtec sticker on my car... jk lol;)

lol vtec y0!!!but are you just going to use the head???
cuz if thats the case i will sell you my z6 head for cheap(we just gotta figure out the dollars thing)

If it is anywhere near 300,000 miles I would definately rebuild that whole motor and the head, I don't know your power goals but the y8/a6 mini me would be a decent turbo steup if you decide to go that way.

i know my a6 was getting pretty old the valves were out of ajustment and things like that. i think i may use the whole y8 motor and just replace the bearing and rebuild my a6 for a high pefromance set up. i dono yet.

Expect about 125-130hp, like a stock D16 VTEC engine.

And you really should rebuild a head with that many miles on it.
do you really get that much of a hp increase?!?cuz my stock d16a6 had like 102 and i put a z6 head, thatd be pretty sick

you cant just replace the bearing,,you should replace all of the bearings, which would lead to lower end bolts, gaskets and seals..so save some time and money and rebuild the a6

i think u guys might be confused, my stock a6 has over 300xxx KM while the y8 motor with the spun bearing has about 127xxx KM.

i used a calculator and it says 300,000 km is 186,411 miles so my 90 civic si as its standing has about 186,411 miles

the d16y8 with the spun bearing has about 78,914 miles

so why cant i send the y8 crank and get it checked over at a machine shop and put new bearings in and call it a done deal?

I'll probally not rebuild the y8 head because i'm on a sort of tight budget.
When I buy head studs do all d16 engines use the same studs or do I have to buy them for the a6 or y8?
And head gaskets, do I buy a y8 or z6 because its thicker than the y8 I think.

start your own thread, use the cam for the head,or go aftermarket
