I'm doing a standard swap: 1990 B18A1 OBD0 into 1989 CRX Si.

Right now I'm swapping the wiring harness off the D16 on the B18 and I found an extra connector on the harness on the back near where the oil filter is. I've looked around but I can find nowhere to plug it in.

I looked at the intake manifold of the D16 and found this sensor on the back next to the EACV but cant locate a similar one on the B18. I checked my manuals but I can't seem to find it and dont know what it is.

If it's a Cali car it may be some sort of smog/emissions deal. Get the car running and check for any trouble codes. There is a little red LED in the ECU, turn the key to the on position and watch for any blinks. Your service manual will list all the codes, it may not even need to be hooked up.
 
the thing down by the oil filter is your oil pressure sensor..you do not need it,just leave it unplugged..it will be ok

Maybe I wasnt clear about this (or maybe you didnt look at the pictures). The connector on the wire harness is down by the oil filter. The sensor it originally plugged into is the one in the photo on the back of the intake manifold.

As far as not connecting the oil pressure sensor, thats great advice (sarcasm). After all, a sudden loss in oil pressure would be no big deal, right?

I think I found the answer....

How about:

Fast Idle Thermo Valve (FITV)
aka Fast Idle Valve (FIV)
aka Fast Idle Control Valve (FICV)
 
Purge solenoid?

Definitely not FITV; those don't have any electrical connections.
 
i dont know what it is...but you have a honda that has an oil pressure gauge in it...thats awesome.

BTW... I looked at that post and it seems you never identified the sensor in the pics. I'm pretty sure it is the EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation?). My Haynes manual says it existed on auto tranny B18s only, but I bought an intake manifold, which the guy swears came off a manual tranny vehicle and it had one too.

Looks like you are just a little ahead of me on this swap. How's yours going?
 
yea it was the egr valve..and those mani's flow soo shitty...but my motor is in,and the harness is all connected,,i am waiting on a rear bracket,dizzy,and vacuum diagram..then it should start...is your motor in yet?
 
I've got the motor in completely, clearance for alternator looks good, brackets all in place, ecu is in, I think the harness is complete except for the one connector I posted this thread about.

I'm going to start the vacuum and cooling lines shortly and hopefully be done with them this weekend. I already have the driveshafts, half shaft and shift linkage but wont install them until I finish the vacuum and cooling (for accessability reasons). I still need a distributor but I'm thinkin about just gettin one from Distributor King on eBay.

Should be done in a few weeks if all goes well.

BUT... I thought I had answered the original question for this post and K2e2vin has cast some doubt on it. So it still stands.

What is this thing?
 
nice..mine should be running by next weekend hopefully..it woulda been running this weekend but ive got tom bring my sister to mental institution in south carolina..lol..

but ive already got my axles and everything in,,i need to put the rear bracket on,the dizzy and do all my vaccuum lines,,so were kinda about the same place..
when you get the vaccuum lines done,,can you post a pic with a diagram?
 
Correct. FITV is a mechanical valve.


With all due respect. I think you guys are wrong. Here is a copy of the electrical schematic for the 89 CRX SOHC that shows a connection to the Fast Idle Control Solenoid Valve. It may be a mechanical valve but it appears that it provides data to the ECU and therefore has electrical connections.

Also the vacuum diagram represenation of the valve is remarkably similar in shape and location to the original picutre I posted.

I am not trying to "one up" anybody I just want to get a good answer on this thing. I didnt have this info when I originally posted the question but all the different opinions forced me to dig deeper. So, do we agree this is the Fast Idle Control Solenoid Valve, or not?

it is the FICV - found on 89-91 Si D16A6 - not on 88 models

don't use those UK manuals - they have a lot of things that are not the same as USDM - this is from US manual - the 88 Si is similar to that picture from the UK manual

My apologies, on both of the MPFI intakes I have they are purely a mechanical valve, no electrical connections what so ever. Which makes me wonder why I am not pulling a CEL with my pm6 on my swap? Something doesn't add up.
