I've been off and on here for a little while and I haven't posted anything in a while. I came across this for $200 and decided to chance it since I was in need of something fuel efficient.

1995 1.0L 3 Cylinder probably 40-50ish horsepower 5 speed Geo Metro.
All it really needs is a new exhaust and rear tires in the near future.
Think I got a deal for $200? Any recommendations?

No AC no power steering, only an alternator and water pump?

For $200? I'd sure as hell rock it. I bet it gets killer gas mileage, especially with the wind behind it :)

You should do like that one guy did to that 5th gen Civic, make it super streamlined and get like 150+ mpg.

First, the brake fluid looks black... so assuming this to be the stock fluid I have to guess that the rest of the fluid is probably stock as well...

Trans flush, coolant flush, brake flush.... might need newer brakes as well.

There are several ways to get better mileage out of that motor considering how terribly it was engineered... basically start with the small stuff, filter, tune-up, exhaust... and you can move to head and header later.

I have a friend that gets consistent 70s out of his.

Run good gas in it and itll basically last forever.

One of my friends had one in high school. It consistently got 60 mpg's. It was actually fun to drive around town because it's so small and nimble. Just don't get hit in it.

Metro or Firefly?
also, its a 94....95's had flush headlights and 1.3's
It's a 95, VIN pulls it as a 95 Geo Metro and stuff matches up. Either that hatch is from a Firefly or its just random badging someone threw on.

Something interesting, as I took it around the headlight relay, I'm guessing died out. I didn't immediately notice since the fog lights are wired to the parking lights and are pretty bright. Story short, cop pulled me over and let me out of it. But the lights will work if I pull back on he lever that is meant for flashing your lights possibly. Whatever it is it's probably the relay and I'll check it out.

Also the brake fluid looks good, just looks bad from the shadow and sunlight, the brake fluid in my crx was clear but appeared the same way when you look at the master cylinder. I'll be checking out the timing belt to see how worn it looks.

Transmission shifts smoothly, but the weird thing is if I'm going over 12 or so miles an hour I cannot shift into second or first from and higher gear. It's like theres a lockout on it. Moment I go below it goes in just fine.

According to the guy I bought it from it's supposedly leaking oil. I haven't found out where exactly but it hasn't gone down. So I'll be flipping/replacing the PCV valve if it hasn't been done already. Then cleaning out the EGR since those seem to be a common cause of problems. After that cleaning the injectors.

Put a nosecone on it.
Well I could just get a street cone and duct tape it to the front end.

Anyone know any good info on swaps for a B series in it .
Probably just going to leave it as is, but I have heard and seen it done, just wondering how much has to be custom fab. Probably mounts linkage(its already a rod type at least im pretty sure) and axles, and of course ECU wiring.

tranny lockout is not uncommon. my 5g wont go into 1st under 15mph.

Yes, but 2nd gear at 11ish. Ridiculous, If I'm going uphill or even on flat ground 3rd gear at that speed the car will not accelerate. Anyway to remove that? It's like driving a fudged up automatic.

As for the EGR system wouldn't that help my mileage by recirculating unburnt fuel and gasses. Shouldn't the ECU react by adding more fuel, thus making it less fuel efficient?

Pontiac Firefly = Geo Metro = Suzuki Swift = Chevy Sprint

I think there is also a Dihatsu or Kia that shares the platform....

Diahatsu originated the design, in the Charade. The actual "Charade" however, is smaller and lighter.

Charade:Jimny::Swift:Samurai. They are similar platforms, but the smaller ones are officially called "AUVs" (Asian market budget cars)
