Hello,

I am buying a built short block this weekend that was built by JG Engine Dynamics. I am going to be mating this engine to a 99 gsr head. My question is if anyone has any idea on what the compresion ratio will be for it. The block is a b18b1 that has been sleeved and bored to a size of 86mm and the deck height has been resurfaced. The block also has closed deck sleeves. The pistons are forged CP racing pistons that are 84.5mm and 12.5 compression ratio. I am going to be putting this in my daily driver DA integra. I will be running chevron supreme at all times. If you have any information about what i am doing or any comments I am all ears. I would like to find out if this is a good or bad idea for a daily driver on 92 octane pump gas. As you can tell i am a noob to the technical aspect of engine building. So please go easy on me. If i am asking a question that has been answered before in a different thread just let me know and i will be happy to read it. I have tried to use the compression ratio calculator but i do not know the piston dome displacement. Ideas on how to get it would be great. i dont have time during the day to call CP pistons so i am not able to get the info from them. I have also tried their website with no luck. Thanks for taking the time to read my post and thank you again if you have a response.

Also i forgot to add that the block originally had a b16 head on it afterit was built.

Thanks Blanco. I have not spent the money yet. I wanted to find out before i spent it. I spoke with a tech at Intec Racing in Kent WA and he told me pretty much what you just said. Thanks again for the info. I am now going to use the money to build my ls block from the integra.
 
Not to burst your bubble, but you stated that the block was sleeved and bored to 86mm BUT it comes with 84.5mm CP pistons? That is not possible. Even with a re-sleeved b18a/b shortblock, boring the sleeves to 86mm wouldn't be too bright since your new sleeves just got that much weaker with that massive bore.
 
Doing this with a b20 block is not out of the ordinary, but once again the b20 block has a stock bore of 84mm. Much more to work with especially with new sleeves.
 
Sorry about that. I thought they were bored to 86mm but in fact they are good to a max size of 86. the cylinders are bored to fit the 84.5 pistons. So moving on, what do you guys think of a cometic head gasket to bring the c/r down.
 
Ah i get it. Might you have any thoughts on using a thicker cometic head gasket to lower the c/r.
 
Yet another good thread to learn from. Scott and LS, the stock bore of a B20 is 84mm, correct? If that is so, after re-sleeving the block, would one be safe boring it to 86mm? Anytime you over bore the cylinders, is the end result more displacement? How does one determine a safe and effective measurement to bore to? Would that be defined in the goals you have for the build? Thanks guys.

Rex, both of these guys know what they are talking about. Take the time to search on the site as well. There is a lot of great information on here. I really wish you the best on your build. Please keep us updated as I, for one, am curious as to how it turns out.
 
The sleeve manufacturer determines what the safe limit is. Effective is really determined by what you want and how much you want to spend.

Yes, bigger cylinders always mean more displacement, unless you destroke at the same time. Example D16 and B16 engines are both 1.6l, but D16 engines have a 75mm bore and 90mm stroke where B16 engines have an 81mm bore and 77mm stroke.

I am just going to throw a b16 in the integra because i really just wanted it as a work car and putting that built of an engine in it would be a waste. Thanks again on the info because it helped me to make what i believe is the right choice.

Do you have your B16 already or are you looking to build one up and are looking for parts? *raises eyebrow*
 
I dont have the b16 yet. Just going to order the long block from H Motors.
