What would be the best mid-priced swap for a 1995 Civic sedan, i'm gonna be swapping the tranny also because it's an auto right now, suggestings on what swap and where i might be able to find some of the stuff for it would be appreciated thanks

What engine is currently in the car? Is it an EX? Or is it an LX/DX?

it's a LX

Ah, ok. Well, you have a few options. You can do what's called a "Mini-Me". This is where you just swap the cylinder head for one from an EX Civic. This will give you VTEC and a few extra horsepower. Or, you could just swap the motor out for an EX motor. It will bolt right in and give you similar gains to the head swap. EX motors (the D16Z6) really aren't that expensive, so for reliability's sake, it might be best to just swap the whole motor.

If you want to go B-series than you have two options for the price range you listed. You could either do a B16, or a B18B (LS swap). Either one of those would be a nice upgrade for your chassis.

Keep in mind though, if you're having a shop install the engine rather than doing it yourself, than you're probably going to need to budget another $1,000 or so. You're also going to need to budget more money for the auto-to-manual swap, probably another grand for that as well (for labor and parts).

If you're limited to $2,500 like you said, then you might want to look into the Mini-Me or D16Z6 as opposed to a B-series.

I just purchased a B18b swap kit from Nagasakimotors.com for $1650 shipped to my residence. That includes everything except shift linkage. Also include new axles. If doing the work yourself it might be an option, but with all the incidentals $2500 is still abit tight.

Cool. B16 or LS are your options then. The GS-R is a nice motor too, but probably a little out of the price range you listed. One nice thing about the LS is that you'll have the 1.8 liter block to start with, and then you can add a VTEC head later when more funds come in.

Yes. You will be happy with the LS. I just finished my LS swap and, for how much people downplay it, I've found it to be quite potent in a stripped down coupe.

Cool sounds good, how much would the VTEC head run me later on, and where woule be a good starting place to find the LS? i know theres a place around here that sells wrecked cars with good engines/trans or is there a specific place

The vtec heads usually go for (on the street), 500-600 depending if it is complete with distributor.

ZOMFG that makes it sound like VTEC heads are some sort of controlled substance or illegal drug, like "yo what you got fo me"
"I got tina, H, mescaline, and GSR heads"

^ lol. I'm not looking for rock, I'm looking for block!

Well where I am from there is quite a bit of stolen engines making their way through hands. When you need a head or tranny or anything for that matter, a lot of people do not want to spend a lot of money. So, they go online and search local forums for parts. I live in the ny/nj area, so for me I would check urbanracer.com or b20vtec.com and sometimes honda-tech.com.

Did you get the whole swap or just the engine? What did it cost you? My B18b swap from nagasaki motors gets to my place on Monday. I just hope all is well with what they sent me. Has anyone heard how nagasaki motors is to deal with? Any reviews for swaps coming from them? I did do a background check but never asked in this forum. Anyone know where I can pick up a 99-00 civic Si air intake system for my swap? Thanks.
