Alarm draining battery...help

OK, I got an alarm installed last year, 2 way pager Prestige alarm. Unless I drive my car everyday,which I don't, the battery loses all its juice! WTF! Anybody have an idea how to fix it?

Does it have a back-up battery? If so it should have a trickle charger for it and either the charger went bad or the battery. I would check to see if you have a draw on the battery from somewhere. I would also get the battery checked.

battery is good, I got a new one from Autozone for free. Not sure on the rest.

when did it start dying? was it immedeatly after you had the alarm installed? if not have you had anything done to your car recently? i find it highly unlikely that the alarm is the cause of your problems.

I didn't have the problem till the alarm was installed. I haven't done anything else electronically to my car. And since I got the alarm, all i have had time to do mechanically was put in some cams/gears, and put on new springs/shocks.
How can I tell if the alarm has the battery backup whiterabbit was talking about?

So this has been going on since last year? I would personally take it back to the people who installed the alarm system and explain your situation to them. The cheap-o install job they serviced you with is probably the cause of your problem.

MAN...I don't want to take it back to the cock-smacks who installed it. I just found the shock sensor just sitting behind my dash.....shouldn't that be mounted somewhere...so it can actually feel some kind of shock...not to mention I have been looking for the receipt since starting this thread....you already know I can't seem to find it....figures....this is why I always do things myself....

as far as the shock sensor goes it can pretty much be mounted to anywhere under the dash it is very sensative to any sort of shock. and because it has been a year and you never went back they probably won't do anything for ya even if you do have your reciept. i know if you came into my shop after a year i would look at it and fix it but i would definatly be charging you for it, ya should have brought it back the moment you noticed the problem.

Yes, I know, the car sat for a couple of months so I didn't need to notice it in time....which is why I came here, where I usually get the answers for my honda questions.......SO...any suggestions on what the heck I can do? I know it is a toughie but I follow directions good, and I have no problem sorting through wires if I knew where to start......

Well start by finding the alarm module, it should be under the dash. It will be a black box with a whole bunch of wires comming out. Most alarms both old and new have a list on the backside with all of the wires and aux plugs for it incase you lose the instructions. All you have to do to check the alarm is use that chart and see what chassis wire the alarm wires are connected to. You find out what those wires do in the car and that should tell you if the alarm wire is going where it should.

People see me outside and come up to me and ask me questions about their car and why is it doing this and why is it doing that... They expect you to be able to tell them what is wrong 100% correctly for free and without even looking at their vehicle. Typical.

Typical of what? Yes, this is the very reason I end up doing things myself. I came and asked your opinion on what to do about someone else's screw up. Maybe you should wear a button that says something like "Don't ask, I won't tell"...at least you offered up some advice on what I could do...

So, once I sort out where each wire goes, which one should I be really looking for? What kind of half assed things should I be on the lookout for...

do you know how to test amperage for anything. if not heres how ya do it get a multi meter and set it to test amperage, disconnect the positive side of the battery, hook one test lead from the multi meter to the battery, hhok the other up to positive battery terminal. this will givve you what the amperage draw is at rest. if you disconnect the brain for the alarm and it drops signifigantly there is you draw that is killing your battery. you can then start to diagnose it further from there but you have to be sure that the alarm is the cause of the drain. however if the alarm is not the cause of the drain you start pullin fuses until there is no more drain on the system.
