Hey I have a 2000 Civic CX hatch auto. What would be the best combination of engine and tranny to swap into this? I'm looking at swapping in a B18B w/ B16A heads. Or, just a B16 swap. Or the B18C swap (depends on price?) I was looking at the CRV-tec as well. I dont know I'm all confused.
It will be a d/d n/a. Just want some fun on the streets. My budget is $2,500-$3,000 (CAD). This would have to include labour as well, since I dont know what I am doing. Unless one of them I could do myself even though I am a noob? Dont think I could do the auto to manual tranny swap though. So, what am I looking at?

If you do not want to convert it to manual, just swap in b18b with automatic transmission. It's fairly easy especially if the engine is from a 99-00 integra. The ecu that comes with the swap should plug right in. You will need a mount kit for this as well.

Does anyone have any experience in these swaps? How difficult was it to do, what sort of tools were required, allotted time, were the power gains worth it in the end, etc?

Now i am just trying to decide between B16A and B18B.. any opinions? B18B would be easier to get a hold of and easier to swap i think..

hey bud if u ain't wantin to go manual, then u ain't gonna see much gain at all. in my opinion honda auto's are "stupid" and don't ever downshift when asked to. the b16a didn't come with an auto tranny, not even sure if it would work, if it did tho u would be lookin at more money to buy the block and tranny seperate.

I would prefer a manual transmission instead of auto, but I dont know if the cost of labor to install it is worth it or not.

the only thing i would be able to think of is different mounts, you would have to do that for a different motor ne ways but its just a thought. why wouldn't u do it ur self?

Is selling your CX hatch and then finding a CX hatch with a manual transmission, and then swapping a motor into it one of your options? Switching from automatic to manual is expensive...

He prefers manual. I would say go with the b18b. If you can find it go with a type-r tranny with the lsd. And swap the cams, throw a cai, header back exhaust, cam gear, and short throw shifter on there and you should enjoy the power gains.

I was trying to but no one wants it lol. Plus I put alot of time and money into the sound system and I would hate to have to re-wire everything all over again.

Understandable. I'm guessing that if you take your car in to get all the work done, it'll cost you an extra $1000 on top of the motor swap to get the automatic changed to manual. If not more.

I have an opportunity to buy a complete '96 Prelude engine swap for $2,000.

Is this a good price? Would it be worth it? (Talking to people who have done this swap) Note* I have a 2000 Civic CX hatch auto. Prelude comes with an auto tranny as well.

I'd go with the B18B over a B16. You've got a bigger block to start with and more options (turbo, LS/VTEC, turbo LS/VTEC, etc.).

I doubt that the Prelude's auto tranny will easily swap into your car. If you want an H22 in your Civic you'll need a manual transmission.

Is this because the transmission itself is too big, or because of tranny mount problems?

An auto tranny vs a manual tranny are essentially the same size. There shouldn't be any fitment problems really. The trick will be in mounting it and in mounting the actual shifter part with the gear indicator lights.

Mounting a manual tranny is much less complicated in this respect. It doesn't really matter if it looks like ass underneath, because all you've got to do is put the center console back on and cover the mess up with a shift boot and knob and it will look like stock. For an auto, you'd either have to re-wire the Civic's auto shifter mechanism to work with the new tranny or somehow incorporate the Prelude's shifter into the Civic's center console.

A manual tranny would just be so much easier...
