Should service members who are under 21 be able to legally drink? What do you think? Are you for it? Are you against it? Please leave me your opinion and why you feel that way.

I propose that they should be allowed to drink but only while on military bases.

ask my 5x fucked EX about this, and why shes my EX. her military experiences practically ruined us.

under 21 + a hotel room full of guys + alcohol = fucking SLUUUUUUT

but those were poor personal decisions.

i'm for it, but only on base.

Illinois is taking a slightly different view, they're considering dropping the drinking age for everyone to 18 for the same reasons. If you can go to war, why can't you drink?

im for it,but again, only on base,

honestly i think that the age should be brought to 18,if your old enough to buy a house, cigs, cars, join the military then your old enough to drink

on base is fine, my military experience tells me that underage drinking + civilains = Military Public Relations Nightmare

and thanks for serving

It's a common practice for a woman in the military to be a complete whore. I forgot the term my buddy uses but its funny.

Speaking as a currently serving military member i say you shouldn´t be allowed in the military until you are 21 period. The things they call upon these guys to do should not be asked of someone that young. For that matter they should bring back the draft. Might get people off their dead asses and involved in what goes on in this country. I´m gonna back off on that last one i just deleted a whole rant that goes way off topic.

Logically yes you should be allowed to drink at 18 if you can go out and get blown apart at 18, and not just on military bases either. If society can realize 18yr old kids can´t handle public drinking they probably can´t fucking handle combat either. Do they do it yes. Does it fuck a large majority of them up for life, yes. Its a bunch of hypocratic :eek:shit.

Now what actually happens overseas? When i was stationed in Italy the drinking age was 18 in the country so everybody could go off the ship and drink. Did we have people vommiting in the street, trying to fight the locals, and generally being completely stupid? Of course, but then look at any down town scene...

Truth is that all the superiors care about is their own evalutations. If you can´t pass a PT (push ups, sit ups, and a run) they don´t kick you out, after you fail three times and meet all the criterea to get booted. They come up with some excuss and keep them in rather than get a bad strike for retention. So then instead of getting a new body in the rate you end up with a platoon of worthless lazy broken people riding the system.

This is why you will never see service memebers drinking under age. Nobody above them wants to pay for it. Course if you could still just take someone aside and punch them in the face when they need it things would all work out much better...

I completely agree with how if someone can get blown apart they should be able to drink.

That's not true, atleast in the Marines. Your physical fitness directly reflects on your cutting score and ability to get promoted, and I know several Marines who where seperated because they got fat and couldn't pass a PFT. But before they get kicked out they ussually get put on a program to get them back into shape. "Remedial PT." Marines PT 3 days a week, That might be a 3-9 mile run, strength training, going through an obstacle course, ect. A Marine on Remedial PT might do that EVERY DAY except for the weekends where he or she is off. And there NCO will probably be watching what they eat in the chow hall.

under 21 + a hotel room full of guys + alcohol = fucking SLUUUUUUT but lots of money from the movie

but those were poor personal decisions.

fixed that one for you

new meaning to "an army of 1", but on the subject of drinking age, I don't believe most 21yr olds are competent to be drinking. There are way too many people in the early 20s still trying to figure things out and where they fit in to it all. With that being said, making something law never stopped anyone before. IMO they should remove restrictions from alcohol (yes all of them), but make the punnishment for breaking the law while under the influnce 10X more harsh. IE first DUI conviction is a massive fine of 5k mandatory 2yr AA meetings and loss of licenes for 5 year also extra expense in insuring a vehicle when you get your licenes back. 2nd offence is lifetime ban on driving.

Only on base.

The law will still help more young people under 21 from killing someone in a car crash.

Off base you are still the same person without having anyone to take orders from.

you still have to take orders from your superior officer regardless of location.

In some ways I think that would be a good idea, It would make some people more aware of the consequences of their actions. But then again people under the age of 21 shouldn't be left to drink without supervision. At that age very few individuals are mature enough to measure the consequences and make sound and rational decisions. People who are over 21 still make irresponsible and immature decisions, unfortunately it's a habit that some never grow out of.

I think that it would work better if the punishments you stated where less severe for people under 21. That way if they screwed up when there young, they would pay, but it wouldn't ruin there life for the next five years. But if they still haven't learned the lesson by the time they hit 21. Screw'em.

*Note* If there are people reading this that fit into that age category i'm not trying to offend you and I know not ALL young people act the same. I'm comparing the group as a whole.

i remember going off to bootcamp at 17. yeah i didnt get much drinking time.

tons of people over the age of 21 are not responsible to drink, not speaking out of my ass here either, I spent years as a bartender.
