most of that shit isnt new at all
hell 90% of the shit they were talking about was available on the insight way back in 2000

ratio of those of us who have owned an insight to not:

Yea, I didn't expect it to be new technology, just and interesting video, but I own an r18.

I just found out there's been development for a turbo kit, on 5 psi with a td04 *I think* it was making 176 whp, close to 200 at 8 psi and that's on the auto. I gotta find out what kind of fuel management they're using and build my own kit cause that's not a bad power increase.

i didn't watch the whole thing, what is the mpg for it?

I usually get around 25-30 with mixed city/highway. And even though it's auto I drive it pretty hard, so I'm impressed with it.

you ever wonder how BORED honda engineers are, explaining VTEC ?

"OH shit George... the fucking board has some investors. It's your turn"

thats why they spice up their presentations with that hip, thumping, techno music. Im also pretty sure i heard the price is right theme song in there.

That video is pretty cool.

Yeah, the technology has been around- but now Honda is putting it all into a mass produced mainstream engine that will go into their normal line of cars- not just the hybrids or the higher performance models, but everything. When specs for the R18 first started coming out, I thought that it would be the new tuner engine. The efficiency is great, plus the bore/stroke geometry makes things REALLY easy on the aftermarket.

But the pistons are oddly shaped, the exhaust manifold is way beyond normal, the intake manifold is plastic, it's DWB, there's minimal room in the engine bay of the Civic equipped with the R18. There are other cons, but those are the worse of them.

FWIW, it's not a bad motor, it is rather torquey for a 1.8 but power is slightly disappointing, granted I have an auto so that plays a little factor.

But the Dtec is interesting, when it comes out I'd trade my FI in for it. Aren't the diesels being produced in Europe and Japan already?

Everything you cited as a "weird" might get in the way of modders, but they always find a way around it... plus all those characteristics made the most sense in a production scenario. They never design the car with the modders in mind. ;)

:werd:

The R18 is a pretty peppy motor. Seems like it would be an excellent swap for EF's and EG's, but the wiring makes it difficult.
