just bought a virgin 1992 si hatch---- decided not to swap the stock z6 out and was wondering if any one new what makes good power on these------ have not done nothing to it yet at all----- also i heard something about b series intake cam in d series???? sounds weird but if any one tried let me know---- just lookin to get good power out of my single cam so i can smoke some tegs and swaped hatches and say its just sohc---- THANKS
 
I've never ever heard of anyone using B-series cams in D-series engines. For the most part B and D stuff is not compatible. I doubt it would work. Quite honestly, there is no cheap way to make power on a D-series engine, especially naturally-aspirated power. If you want to spank GS-Rs and swapped Civics, then I'd look towards a turbo setup...
 
if you wanted a fast car, you should have bought something else. use it for a commuter car. if you want to race, just buy a b18.
 
Blanco somewhere in your signature you need to put d-series guru.

With that said listen to Blanco is regarded as the d-series know-it-all. As for get_nick saying if you wanna race swap the motor...I disagree. The z6 is probably the easiest d-series motor to tune for good power. If you are looking to race this car 2 things you wanna look at before touching the motor with a turbo setup-arp head studs, and new head gasket. Past that I would agree with Ls_vtec, and Blanco.

you can disagree, but it all depends on what you are trying to do. if you want a dd with good power, do what blanco did and do an all motor d. if you want cheaper power, get a turbo kit. if you want a track car, build an all motor b-series. keeping the front end weight down is a big factor in building a car. it isn't all about hp numbers. it just depends on budget, goals, and intentions.
 
um keeping the weight down? correct me if I am wrong cause I am not sure but wouldn't a d-series be lighter?
i'm referring to turbo'ing the D. if you put a whole turbo kit, with front mount and all that, it's going to add a lot of weight to the front and throw off the balance. you will get a lot of understeer.
 
It won't throw off the balance that much Nick. :)

D16Z6 cam

B series cams have 2, one for exhaust, one for intake. The lobes are designed for each.
D series cam has a 2-1, intake and exhaust are both on the same single cam.

If you put a B series cam in a D series, somehow I think you'd be left without either intake, or exhaust. Just somehow.




If you want real power, get a bunch of APC stickers, and a very large spoiler, it'll add 10000HP instantly.
 
i built my d16y8 before i put a h22 in it and i was raping alot of stuff Go to GUDE.com i bought a fully built head and cam package from them ported polished head, intake manifold, and throttle body. it comes with a mild cam and a little valve work. It real opened up my D. Before i put it on i went and had it milled at my local machine shop to run a little higher compression after it was all together i put adjustable fuel reg. ran a little more fuel and intake and full exaust and sprayed it with a 75 shot, make sure you have a good clutch, i had a exedy 3 puck. you think turbo is fun nitrous is fun and i spanked turbo d's all day long and gsr swapped hatches. It was fun to show the d and have people scrach there head lol.

what do you have against gude? just wondering I heard about that head package and was thinking about buying it.
