Well i'm new to this but right to the point...have a 90 teg ls and want to put a b16 head on it.....don't really want to hook up the vtec right now just want to have it running right now.any advice on what to plug, cut or whatever will be appreciated.

Try searching for ls/vtec conversions. The swap is very easy, the wiring varies depending on the car/engine harness/ecu. To better help you out a little, I will list the main changes that need to be done IF you are not touching your bottom end whatsoever (though you should).

B16/GSR/ITR head complete
gsr water pump
gsr timing belt
ls-vtec conversion kit (includes dowels, HG, oil feed)
ARP head studs (specify gsr when ordering them regardless of the head)
Since your engine is an obd0, you will have to use an obd0 distributor.
obd0 b-series ecu that supports vtec

If you can find a first gen b16a1 head complete, I would pick that up. Probably cheaper and is obd0.

if you dont hook up the knock sensor, vtec cyl. or have proper ecu with all the wiring...... your car will go into "Limp" mode and have a hard time starting.... atleast that was the issue on my teg after the Vtec swap

The knock sensor is not needed if using a chipped ecu.

Why would you put the head on and not wire up VTEC? What's the point? The B16 head flows a bit better, but without the VTEC you're not really going to see much of a gain...

you'll gain more compression... but its still kinda pointless with out vtec.. and please build it right too.. im tired of people sayin its not reliable!!!!!p

True, yeah. Still though, what's the point in throwing a VTEC head on there if you're not going to wire it up? Might as well just throw some P30 pistons in there to bump the compression and have the LS head ported n' polished...

thats what i would do if i was him.. if this is ur first motor build i wouldnt do ls/vtec just build your ls until you get the hang of it...cuz from what im getting at it he doesnt have much knowledge.. but hey we where all like that at one point an time...

i know that there is no point if the vtec is not gona be hooked up but the car is not mine it's a friends, i'm just helping him out by installing it for him...he just really needs the car runnin right now. his timing belt snapped on his car so it messed up all the valves from the ls head and instead of fixing it he is using the b16 head he had in his garage....like i said he just really needs a car right now BUT he is planing to do the whole LS/VTEC deal...............for right now i would like to know what i need to do to have the car running.

get the golden eagle ls/vtec kit.. on ebay its like $220. that comes with everything u pretty much need.. head gaskets. dowel pins, tap n plug, etc... then he needs a b16 manifold.. and a vtec ecu... and i wouldnt rev that thing to the moon unless its buildt plus the rod bolts on a ls arent all that great.. hope that helps.

The b16 head that he has is already plugged....all he needs are the dowel pins not gettin the whole kit cuz he doesn't want vtec right now.

Wait...i thought that by puttin the b16 head it would give him more compression...anyways thank you guys thats all i needed to know about that swap.

Now about me...i have a g1 teg (86) with the d16a1 my question to you is "will it be a good choice to build that motor or go for something else?"

its 9:3:1 with a ls motor.. and with a b16 head its 9:7:1.. so you'll gain a lil bit but not much
