Howdy all...

I have a potential project that I am considering buying but after looking at the wiring situation I am wondering how difficult it will be.

What I am looking for is others input on what they think it will take to make this "Frankenstein" work.

What I have is a 86 CRX Si with a PE7 ECU, A D16A1 Block, ZC dual cam head, what I believe is a 88/89Si manifold and injectors. For the curious it looks like there is a early 1st gen integra trans installed on it too, but could not find any identifiable markings to make sure other than writing on it from the auto wrecker it most likely came from originally.

Let me know your thoughts and ideas on what it will take.

Iam pritty sure thats a d16a1 top to bottem cause iam pritty sure the zc head will only fit on the zc block it was ment for. Iam not compleatly sure on that thou.

Uh, isn't a frankenstein a b20 block with a vtec head?

I thought a d16 with a vtec head was called a mini-me.

Well before I jump into this project I really need to figure out what it is... I have verified the stamp on the block, but the head is not v-tech is twin cam and has a cam position sensor. Now the only head I know that is like that is a JDM ZC twin cam head.

the D16A1 that came in early integras looks very much like a ZC twin cam, but is not the same. odds are, if it's a D16A1 bottom end it all matches and came from an integra.

yep, that'd be my guess. and frankenstein engines i believe would be any non vtec b series block mated to a vtec head.

Frankenstein means a bunch of different parts thrown together to make one working unit. Doesn't really matter if its B or D series.

well sure , but from what ive seen the majority of threads or builds involving "frankenstein" engines have been B series. main ex. being ls/vtec. but sure anything with diff parts thrown together could be called a frankenstein setup, no doubt there lol

name was originally thrown around with the ls vtec back when omni man made the first one.

I am of the same thinking as khrisb is on the meaning of Frankenstein. A mix of components/parts.

So the general thinking here is that I have a 1st Gen d16A1 Integra engine? If so how can I verify this?

If that is true then will this thing work in a 1st gen CRX w/PE7 ECU or do I want to move to a PM3?

block stamp and the stamp on the head. the head stamp should tell you if it does belong to the first gen integra.

"Frankenstein" is just a general term for any hybrid motor, i.e. a motor assembled with parts from a bunch of different motors. LS/VTEC, B20/VTEC, Mini-Me, K20 head/K24 block would all be considered "Frankenstein" motors...

why does frankenstein matter? lol everyone is arguing about that even though the frankenstein thing is about any block/head swap combo. either way it doesn't matter. What is wrong with the wiring now? is it just not wired at all or is there electrical problems? will it not start?
